This book wraps up Yesterday's Gone. The story picks up some years after the end of Season 5, where the aliens have basically taken over the planet and The Light and it's rebel crusaders are isolated into small pockets of resistance. The origins of the Light and the Darkness are finally definitively revealed and I thought that it actually made for a pretty good explanation, even if I did always think referring to them as "Light" and "Dark" was kind of silly. Great character development, absolutely zero downtime throughout the book as you are led through one action sequence after another with great cliffhanger endings at the end of chapters, and a satisfying conclusion to the series with one caveat. I liked the epilogue and the final disposition of all of the characters, but the device used to actually defeat all but the final bad guy felt a bit flat and out of the blue. Not that much of any post-apocalyptic alien invasion story is ever plausible, but the final battle strained my suspension of disbelief. Not enough to give it a lower star rating though; I still enjoyed the book quite a lot as a whole. The only thing needed now is an HBO series...
