Description

Join Jefferson Bethke, New York Times bestselling author of Jesus > Religion, as he challenges the accepted view of contemporary Christianity with the world-changing message that Jesus actually brought.

Jesus was most upset at people for seeing but not seeing. For succumbing to the danger and idolatry of forcing God into preconceived human ideals. But what if there were a better way? What if Jesus came not to help people escape the world but instead to restore it?

It's Not What You Think tells the familiar stories of the scripture in a radically new light, presenting God’s unchanging truths from the Old and New Testaments as the challenging story that it is: a mysterious, compelling narrative with God at the center.

Along the way, Bethke reminds us of the life-changing message of Jesus that turned the world upside-down--a world that God is putting back together--teaching us how to:
Uncover our true purpose and satisfy our longing for significanceFind the kingdom of God wherever we areEmbrace the gifts of fellowship and community
Praise for It's Not What You Think:

"With a deep discernment of the times we're living in, Jefferson spotlights many misinterpreted truths in the Bible and puts a voice to the true heart of God's Word. His desire to bring us into a more intimate encounter with God jumps off of each page. Christians need this book--now more than ever!"

--Lysa TerKeurst, New York Times bestselling author of Forgiving What You Can't Forget and president of Proverbs 31 Ministries

"It's easy to get stuck in life. To let our faith grow stagnant, our walk grow weary, and our hope grow silent. Jefferson isn't okay with that and has created a book that turns what we think we know upside down. Creative, honest, refreshing. I'm a huge fan of the heart that explodes from this book."

--Jon Acuff, New York Times bestselling author of Do Over: Rescue Monday, Reinvent Your Work & Never Get Stuck

'It's Not What You Think' goes in-depth with your faith and what you believe. I have had to rethink what I was taught growing up and the differences people have towards the Bible after reading this book. While so many authors re-word the Bible into wronging, Jefferson Bethke re-teaches the verses and scriputres into a more understanding way, one that helps you into being a better person in Christ! Some parts were easy to the mind and fun to read, while others really made you re-think your own faith. God wants us live a life in him, teaching and understanding the faith that so many disbelieve. There are so many great phrases in this book, highlighting won’t hurt and journaling won't either! This book is great for any age and it won't disappoint! (It is also the perfect size, color and texture!) Thank you Jefferson! P.S. For couples, also buy the 31CreativeWays Book!

In Jeff Bethke’s new book, he explains that there are many aspects of our lives and our faith that we have been thinking about the wrong way. In a similar way he does with his first book Jesus > Religion, he takes much of what we know about Christianity and turns it on its head to give us a much needed change of perspective. He takes us on a journey through the Bible that is so much different and more refreshing than any book I’ve read in a long time. You are left with a hopeful outlook on our lives in light of God's plan to bring His kingdom in the here and now. This book is a must read for Christians of all ages, but especially to teens, young adults, and those that desire to understand these topics with a new perspective. I would encourage anyone to read It's Not What You Think!
  • Both High and Deep

Wow what a great read! Let me elaborate. This book is deep. I would describe it as a view of the Bible so far zoomed out that it gives you new perspective to common stories, messages, and themes. Sometimes we may have too close of a view of Scripture, but Jefferson shows some of the actual intents behind what God is saying. Honestly, it took me awhile to wrap my head around some of what was being said because I generally have a very analytical mindset, but once I grasped the overview and yet the depth of what he was saying, I was honestly blown away. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to go deeper in their faith and learn more about how much God loves them and desires them.
