This is the first book in a long time that I’ve read that I could not put down.
Tries too hard

Unnecessarily complicated threads tangle instead of weave. Too much reliance on shock and horror instead of solid writing.
Not prepared

The book wasn’t bad at all. I enjoyed the story and the plot was good until I got to the part about the videos…
I wasn’t expecting something like that. And I can’t say I enjoyed it. I felt it went a really dark way. I also felt that it all seemed far fetched.
I wish the “twist” or whatever you want to call it wasn’t what it was. This book was unsettling and major trigger warning.

“Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter is a dark, gritty psychological thriller that dives deep into the lives of two sisters, Claire and Lydia, who are forced to confront their traumatic past and uncover horrifying secrets about their family and their town.
The novel begins with the disappearance of Julia, the eldest sister, 20 years ago—a tragedy that tore the family apart. Claire, the polished and privileged wife of a successful businessman, and Lydia, a single mother struggling to get by, haven’t spoken in years. When Claire’s husband, Paul, is murdered in a violent attack, she begins to discover unsettling truths about his life that shake her to her core. At the same time, Lydia uncovers clues that suggest Paul might have been involved in something far darker than anyone suspected.
As the sisters reunite to piece together the mystery surrounding Paul’s life and Julia’s disappearance, they uncover a horrifying web of violence, exploitation, and secrets that stretch back decades. The revelations force them to confront their own fractured relationship and the lingering wounds from their shared trauma.
Told through alternating perspectives, including flashbacks and excerpts from their father’s journal addressed to the missing Julia, the narrative is both emotionally raw and relentlessly suspenseful. Slaughter doesn’t shy away from exploring the darkest aspects of humanity, making this book as shocking as it is compelling.“

I have a hard time finding books to actually finish. This book had me hooked from the beginning. I love ‘true crime’ and this met all my ‘must haves’ in a page turner!

This book was definitely a page turner. But it was extremely gruesome in some parts, they were just so vile. The author has a wicked imagination. If you’re into it that’s cool, I’m happy it’s over.

This book was captivating but towards the end especially became extremely dark and graphic. I was already so far into it that I finished but there were multiple times I asked myself why I was reading it. :-/

4.5 stars and honestly close to 5!! It’s the last chapter for me! This was so beautiful in a totally graphic and descriptive way. The underlying family bonds really got me. The trigger warnings are totally valid on this one and wouldn’t recommend to the faint of heart but if you can stomach the tough scenes this one is a must read! Every time I thought it couldn’t get more dark or twisted it did. This left me totally shocked at so many different points and truly kept me on my toes. The hype was real.
It was okay…
