Elizabeth Barrett Browning was born on March 6, 1806, at Coxhoe Hall, Durham. She was an English poet of the Romantic Movement.
After reading the poems Elizabeth wrote, Robert started sending her letter for several months, until they meet for the first time. The next year they got married. Their love was strong and never faded away. They had one son, named Robert “Pen” Browning, who actually published the book with their letters.
Robert and Elizabeth have exchanged 585 letters, starting on January 10, 1845 and ending one week after their marriage, when Elizabeth wrote the last letter on September 18, 1846.
Their love letters are among the most famous in literary history, providing insight into the lives of these poets.
