Description

He quickly realises that, whatever causes her to flee his courtship three years ago, it wasn't what he'd been told at the time. Now he has until she finishes the chair for his mother to convince her to marry him.

A carriage-maker's daughter, educated beyond her station, once dreamed of stepping into the fairy tale world of the ton, only to have her dreams crushed. Now the man she cannot forget is back, and he seems determined to raise those false hopes all over again. But she only has to hold out until she finishes the chair for his mother, and she can walk away again.

    It wasn't well researched, but the story was a good. The character were likable, except for the antagonists. This one falls in that weird place between sweet and steamy. There's too much talk and thought of body parts and the act of sex for it to be considered a "clean and wholesome" read, but the deed itself happens off the page after the couple marry. This is my voluntary review of a copy I received from Booksprout.

  • Sweet in the best Regency tradition

    This was such a great novella! In the tradition of sweet Regency romance, Knight introduces a strong and opinionated heroine, a gentle but determined hero, and a relationship that is all the stronger for the struggle to attain the happy ending. Without obvious and blatant sexuality, and without forcing a situational resolution, the reader can believe in the interconnection of two less-than-perfect souls thwarted by circumstance. As a spin-off novella to a book as yet unpublished, Candle's Christmas Chair gives me a strong impetus to put this author, and all her future novels, on my permanent TBR list.

    I can't even finish this book, it's so dull and slow paced. So much inane dialogue. Any affection between the characters is washed away by repeated information and long winded narrative about random subjects. The love story is almost like a side thing with history and the meanings of flowers taking forefront. Total snooze fest.
