Description

Ryder Creed and his K9 search-and-rescue dogs return in the second installment of this exciting series, teaming up once more with FBI profiler Maggie O’Dell in their riskiest case yet.

When Ryder Creed responds to a devastating mudslide in North Carolina, he knows that the difference between finding survivors and the dead is time. He and his sturdiest search-and-rescue dog, Bolo, get to work immediately, but the scene is rife with danger: continued rainfall prevents the rescue teams from stabilizing the land; toxic household substances spread by the crushing slide fill the area with hazardous waste; and the detritus and debris are treacherous for both man and dog to navigate. But most perilous are the secrets hidden under the mud and sludge—secrets someone would kill to protect. For this is no ordinary rescue mission. Among the buildings consumed by the landslide was a top-secret government research facility, and Creed has been hired to find what’s left of it.

Then rescuers recover the body of a scientist from the facility who was obviously dead before the landslide—killed by a gunshot to the head. The FBI sends Agent Maggie O’Dell to investigate, and she and Creed are soon caught in a web of lies, secrets, and murder that may involve not only the government facility, but decades-old medical experiments that are the subject of current congressional hearings. As more bodies are found under even more unusual circumstances, they come ever closer to exposing the truth—but with unknown forces working against them, Maggie, Creed, and the dogs are running out of time.

I read the first book in the series and now this one. Although I truly liked the story, I couldn’t get used to the author explaining something after the fact.......a character would provide an answer and you’re wondering what you missed. I’d do a complete word search to see the explanation would come through later. I know this is a series but too many of the connected story lines are left hanging so you have to assume how it all ends since not everything is answered clearly in the next book.

Image being buried inside a mudslide….It dries quick acting like cement. This is what happens to Ryder Creed in North Carolina. Will he get to see the light of day again? What has happened to Bolo, his search and rescue dog? Did he survive the mudslide? Ryder Creed had been a K-9 handler in Afghanistan and Iraq. Ryder is now training dogs for search & rescue. He is called upon to go to North Carolina after a landslide has covered a covert government research facility that is testing biological /chemical warfare. He and his dog are to locate both the dead and alive. Maggie O’Dell, FBI agent is sent to oversee that things are done correctly?? It seems several bodies found died not Because of the slide but by being…Shot!!!! Who killed these people? Who took the chemical vials? Fast paced well plotted with surprising twists and turns leading to a very unexpected ending. The main characters are well developed with an undeniable chemistry to each other. The supporting characters add suspects and flavor to the story. Full of drama, suspense, excitement, horror and surprises at every turn of the page!!!! This is the second book in the authors new Ryder Creed Series. It can be read as a stand alone. Thank you to First To Read for this eBook. My opinion is my own.

Ryder Creed and Maggie O'Dell are back!!! I just love these guys as a couple. This was their third case together as he was introduced in a Maggie O'Dell novel prior to starting the series. The action and everything your expecting continues on in this book just like her others. This time though, she's unknowingly sent in for a government coverup case that turns out to be quite dangerous. Men with power will do anything to coverup their mistakes and I mean, anything!! The ending kind of just dropped off at the end, so I'm sure there will be a continuing story as to how this plot finally unfolds. I definitely recommend this or any of the Ryder Creed books. He's my favorite love interest of any of the female heroines out there. He's just compassionate and sensitive with those dogs. Maggie needs to forget Ben and move on!!!! I want to thank Penguin Group Putnam and Net Galley for the free e-galley in exchange for an honest review. It was definitely entertaining and enjoyable. It made for very nice reading on a rainy day.
