Description

Humanity is threatened by it’s own monstrous children in this controversial fantasy novel from the New York Times–bestselling author.

Killing children is an ugly business, but the alternative is so much uglier. Abner Slate just watched his five-year-old daughter, Olive, kill his wife and son. Olive is a sopath. Born without souls, sopaths are children who will lie, cheat, rape, and murder to get what they want. There’s one in every family these days, destroying America’s heartland from within.

After murdering his daughter in self-defense, Abner is taken in by a secret network of sopath victims called Pariah. Through Pariah, he meets other sopath victims who band together to form a temporary nuclear family. But the sopath threat is getting worse, and soon their quaint little neighborhood is overrun by murderous, drug-running children.

Now, on a mission for Pariah, Abner and his makeshift family must travel across the country to a mysterious town that contains a secret powerful enough to stop the sopath crisis. Instead, they find the most seductive and ruthless sopath of all. Her name is Autopsy, and she would like to add Abner to her slave collection. The old morality is dead. Now the sopaths will stalk the Earth.

  • This is literally the worst book I’ve ever read

I can’t believe this got published, both because the writing is so awful and because it’s basically child pornography. This was so horribly written that it seemed more like a sophomoric stream of consciousness insight into Piers Anthony’s sick sexual fantasies. Beyond the questionable content, there’s no character development, the plot has a ton of holes, and the dialog is oddly wooden and unbelievable. This book has also revealed Piers to be a total sexist pig - you can tell Piers has zero understanding of women or how to pleasure them and that one of his fantasies is about having an animal/masculine magnetism that would make him irresistible to women and children.

Do not read this book. It had a lot of opportunities to be amazing but turned into glorified child porn towards the end. Biggest waste of my time in years.

I am sure pedophiles adore this book, otherwise, what was an interesting plot becomes so vile as to be unbearable to read any further. The writing is so elementary it leads me to believe this really was written for bottom feeding social deviants. I made it to page 203 and I feel sick. Apple: I want my money back.

It was an interesting book. Not necessarily in a good way. I wish I could wash my brain with soap after I was done, because I read the entire thing. It did keep my attention, I'll give the author that. Mostly out of morbid curiosity, I guess.
  • What a disappointment

The premise of this book intrigued me. The writing and dialogue seemed forced and unnatural. The pedophilia storyline was especially disturbing but the writing was so poor that the book just seemed to drone on and on and on. Do not waste your time or money on this one.
  • Fascinating story

Fascinated by the ruthless, cold-hearted and incorrigible play of a "sopath", this book journeys through a horrific life of chaos. The novel itself had a strong introduction, causing curiosity to the mind of a sopath. As you go along the story line; you meet Abner slate, Bunty, Dreda and Clark - all survivors of a terrifying situation. This terrifying situation bringing them together - all seeking for a way to survive - The Sopath's.

I loved Mr Anthony's books as a kid and was intrigued by the premise of this book as an adult. But, the writing is so flat and emotionless and the imagery is practically nonexistent that I'm regretting this purchase after the first 100 pages. Can't recommend this at all.
