The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Gold Book December 2023 is a reference publication that reflects the current doctrine, organization, and capabilities of the 101st Airborne Division. It incorporates the latest tactics, techniques, procedures, and lessons learned from recent operations while maintaining focus to defeat the threats of tomorrow. Revisions to this edition include of the Gold Book reflect the Army’s shift from Unified Land Operations to Multidomain Operations (MDO). Significant updates include the addition of Joint Forcible Entry and Large-Scale, Long-Range Air Assault (LLAASLT) mission sets. Additional updates include; alignment with current doctrine and division structure, revision of prescriptive language limiting aviation in MDO, standardization of light and heavy PZ procedures, UAS reconnaissance handover reports, FARB operations, unique external load procedures, and refined air assault planning procedures. Most notably this edition of the Gold Book serves as the foundation for the Division’s LLAASLT operation concept. We will Fight Further, Faster, in the Fiercest Conditions – relentlessly pursuing the enemy across 500 nautical miles in one POD, in any environment to endure 14+ days and WIN! Deliberate focus on Air Assault Mastery, incorporation of modernized equipment, and embracing a culture of innovation are critical to the Division’s campaign of learning. Lessons learned will be incorporated in an out of cycle revision in late 2024, advancing the application of vertical envelopment through LLAAST.
