Description

After an almost two-year hiatus, House of the Dragon has returned, and it's a largely positive return from the Game of Thrones prequel. Since season 1 of House of the Dragon included several decades, recasts, and a world reintroduction, a lot of the hard work for season 2 has already been completed. The cast is more established in Season 2, there are no time jumps, and The Dance of the Dragons starts in earnest. Returning soon after the conclusion of House of the Dragon season 1, the prequel starts to build in intriguing ways, albeit not everything quite works out. The first several episodes of House of the Dragon's Season 2 largely contain content that you would expect. It's about putting the pieces back in place and preparing the board for the chess movements to start, much as in the style of Game of Thrones. There are numerous brief council scenes, chats in poorly lit chambers, and the emergence of character plots and schemes. While not all interactions are the same and it's not inventing the wheel, it's generally quite effectively done. Conversations between two characters were frequently the best parts of Game of Thrones. Although I don't think House of the Dragon has quite as many characters that can live up to that, it does succeed when the appropriate characters are chosen.
