September 1940. The Blitz is destroying London. As the sirens warn of another German air raid, Mary, a child lost in the chaos, crosses paths with Isaac, a gardener from Kensington. Taking refuge in the Underground, he helps her forget the violence that humans wreak on each other by making up a story for her, the story of "The Tree of a Thousand Colours".
