Description

Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett faces two different kinds of rampaging beasts—one animal, one human—in this riveting new novel from #1 New York Times bestseller C.J. Box.

A rogue grizzly bear has gone on a rampage—killing, among others, the potential fiancé of Joe’s daughter. At the same time, Dallas Cates, who Joe helped lock up years ago, is released from prison with a special list tattooed on his skin. He wants revenge on the people who sent him away: the six people he blames for the deaths of his entire family and the loss of his reputation and property.

Using the grizzly attacks as cover, Cates sets out to methodically check off his list. The problem is, both Nate Romanowski and Joe Pickett are on it.

Excellent writing, the book kept the reader engaged, a good Joe Pickett story.

The story felt rushed, especially the end. Not one of his best!
  • Good but not perfect.

4 Stars. Not Box and Pickett at their best but shill a thrill filled adventure, if a little too far out there. Plenty of storylines got wrapped up, perhaps with unnecessary torture to one of the crew, Box went there though. This sure seemed like the first of two parts wrapping up an awful lot. I hope there’s plenty more to come for Joe and the gang but I’m not completely sure. The next one should be better, and answer plenty of unanswered questions.

Wow, really exciting, definitely action-packed at the end. I have reservations about some of the ‘bad guys’, who seem a little implausible—and the mechanical bear.
  • Another nail biter!

I believe I’ve read all of CJ Box’s books and this one ranks up there in the top 5. I didn’t want to put it down! It will mean more to the reader the more familiar you are with the characters. If you haven’t read a Box book yet, read a few of the earlier ones first. Very suspenseful! Highly recommend.

The ending of this book was ridiculous and dumb. Once again an author left a door open just to sell another book, which I will NOT purchase.
