Description

From the author of the bestselling Liz Talbot Mystery Series comes a novel about family and secrets, and the lengths we’ll go to in order to protect both.

Can this charming do-gooder carry the day?

Charleston, SC. Hadley Cooper has a big heart. So when the easygoing private investigator gets a request from a new friend to stake out her husband’s extramarital activities, she immediately begins surveillance. And when her client is discovered dead on her kitchen floor, the Southern spitfire is certain the cheater is the culprit … even though he has the perfect alibi: Hadley herself.

Flustered since she observed the cad four hours away in Greenville at the time of the murder, the determined PI desperately searches for clues to tie him to the crime. But when her ex-boyfriend, who happens to be the lead detective on the case, arrests a handy suspect, Hadley fears a guilty man is about to walk free.

Can this Palmetto State sleuth make an impossible connection to prevent a miscarriage of justice?

With dry wit and delightful dialogue, Susan M. Boyer delivers an eccentric, vegan gumshoe sure to appeal to any fan of Southern women’s fiction. With her merry band of sassy friends, Hadley Cooper is a Lowcountry detective you won’t soon forget.

Big Trouble on Sullivan’s Island is the engaging first book in the Carolina Tales series. If you like strong heroines, quirky sisterhoods, and plenty of Southern charm, then you’ll love Susan M. Boyer’s wonderful whodunit.

But terrifically entertaining! The author has an expansive imagination! Good plotting, in spite of the risks the author has Hadley take. Not to be a spoiler for others, but it all wraps up well. Even though there’s a large cast of characters, it was not difficult to keep them in the right places in my mind, which is unusual. I just love Hadley. She is smart, brave, and very skillful.

This was such a refreshing listen for me. I absolutely enjoyed picturing this quaint and small beach town. Pictured living in a big house by the beach. Everything was easy to picture, and I love that! We follow Hadley who is a PI while she investigates a friend's husband for infidelity. But before she can wrap up the investigation, her client is found dead. We're on the case to find the murderer but as the investigation progresses, we discover that there is a dark secret waiting to be discovered in the shadows. The narrator, Courtney Patterson does a wonderful job portraying Hadley and several other characters in the book. Her voice is very nice, and she used a wide array of tones and inflections throughout many scenes that added to the story. This would be a perfect beach read especially for those who enjoy women's fiction and mystery. A very special thanks to Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for the gifted ALC.

Susan Boyer has created another strong, smart, sassy southern female lead in this new series. The primary mystery is fun to follow, but I especially enjoyed the character development and look forward to following this group of friends in future adventures. I didn’t want to put it down!

I really enjoyed this new book by the author. I love the low country series, which I hope there will be more of. And I am hoping there will be a series about Hadley. Susan Boyer has a charming way with words.

It is a big risk when an author leaves the comfort of a well-loved and best-selling series (The Liz Talbot Mystery Series) and instead strikes out to write a stand-alone collection of books known as the Carolina Tales. This is what author Susan M. Boyer has done and she has released her first book, Big Trouble on Sullivan’s Island, and in my opinion, this series is going to be spectacular! She has managed to incorporate several mysteries into this plot and Boyer will keep your attention to the end before she unravels all the details. What I like most about this book is Boyer’s ability to provide readers with a provocative plot, exceptional multiple-dimension characters, the beautiful setting of Sullivan’s Island, SC, malfeasance, murder, and mayhem. She also shows the depth of women's friendships – friends since childhood, others since high school, others made as adults, and the one that makes all the difference, only recently. Friends have become family because they have been there for one through the good and bad even when a spouse wasn't. These friends band together to protect one of their own and quickly realize they need to hire the delightful Hadley Cooper PI, their newest friend (an impressive young woman who is able to insert herself in any situation and is the mistress of disguises) to solve the murder of their mutual friend. Don't miss this wonderful new release! I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Stella Maris Books, LLC. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own and without influence.
