Description

Turning up the heat…

Private Investigator Liz Talbot is a modern Southern belle: she blesses hearts and takes names. She carries her Sig 9 in her Kate Spade handbag, and her golden retriever, Rhett, rides shotgun in her hybrid Escape. When her grandmother is murdered, Liz hightails it back to her South Carolina island home to find the killer. She’s fit to be tied when her brother—the chief of police—shuts her out of the investigation, so she opens her own. Then her long-dead best friend pops in and things really get complicated. As more folks turn up dead in this small seaside town, Liz must use more than just her wits and charm to keep her family safe, chase down clues from the hereafter, and catch a psychopath before he catches her.

Lowcountry Boil (A Liz Talbot Mystery) by Susan M. Boyer is fantastic! I just discovered this author and I’m so thankful I did! I already know her main character Liz Talbot is going to be one of my favorites - she doesn’t take no for an answer, set up her on PI Business on an Island and lives in an old family home on the Beach with her faithful dog. She has a funny Southern family that I surely hope we will continue to read about in future books. Boyer’s characters are believable and become beloved. Her plot is catchy and will draw you in and keep your attention. The best part - you will be wanting to visit the wonderful island of Stella Maris again very soon!

When Liz Talbot returns to Stella Maris, her family's South Carolina island home, to investigate her grandmother's murder, it's not entirely her own idea. Her best friend Colleen has asked her to come home. This would have been less of a surprise if Colleen hadn't been dead since she and Liz were seventeen. With Colleen popping in to provide the occasional push, and armed with her trusty Sig Sauer and a bottle of hand sanitizer, Liz works to untangle the complicated strands of family history, ambition, and greed, a murder or two, an argumentative town council, her high school flame, her ex-husband, and her business partner, who just happens to be her ex-brother-in-law. Never forget her Mother Caroline believes everything is better with a little lipstick!! Always fun with all the plot twists and eccentric neighbors and friends. Looking forward to many more!

Liz Talbot, private detective, is the star of this amazing book! She’s from the island of Stella Maris near Charleston South Carolina although working in Greenville. But when her grandmother is murdered she rushes back to Stella Maris to solve the crime. Her brother Blake the police chief wants her to stay out of his investigation but she refuses to do that. And then she’s visited by the ghost of her high school friend Colleen who drowned. It’s a fascinating investigation before the killer is revealed and you’ll definitely enjoy following Liz and her family. It’s totally worth the read!

I came across Susan Boyer’s Lowcountry Boil at the library in 2016. I had never read cozy mysteries before but this book got me hooked. I Love the characters and the story lines. Liz is my favorite. She’s a character you can relate to and has a wonderful family. After reading Lowcountry Boil I moved on to Lowcountry Bombshell and have looked forward to every book release. I have bought them for my own library and highly recommend them for yours.

This is such a fun read and the first book in this series! I really enjoyed the author’s writing style. Liz Talbot is a PI who solves cases with her “friend” Colleen. All this is based in the beautiful Charleston, SC area. What else do you need? More than just a cozy mystery. A few twists and turns and some humor too. Highly recommended.
