Description

It all started that summer in Lake Bittersweet… Emmaline Curtis has never been outside the state of Minnesota before, so winning an all-expenses-paid trip to Hawaii is a dream. Back home, working the family farm and caring for her brother means precious little free time. So when she meets an intriguing hottie at the resort, she’s ready for anything. No last names. No personal details. Just two willing strangers enjoying each other in paradise; then Emmaline can go home with good memories and no chance of awkward future run-ins with Conor. Conor Gault’s business trip turned sensual excursion is cut short by devastating news—his rock star father has unexpectedly passed. Suddenly he’s heading to a town he’s avoided for seventeen years. Lake Bittersweet, Minnesota. The place where one long-ago disastrous night changed the course of his life. The last person he expects to run into is Emmaline, the quirky knockout who’s been living rent-free in his head ever since Hawaii…and who just happens to be a local. Before long, their sizzling attraction heats up again. Their worlds couldn’t be more different—he’s a wealthy financial whiz, she’s a farmer. But in a startling twist of fate, Conor and Emmaline discover their pasts are linked in ways they never imagined. Ways that may ensure their fiery affair will never be more than a temporary fling.

More than just romance and not an easy journey. Brought out a lot of emotional challenges for the couple and how they get through it. More believable than other romance novels.

Relaxing enjoyable reading. When opposite worlds attracts even by the differences. When impossible is possible with love as the center. Very good feeling reading. A must read for your list.

Two characters dealing with guilt from their pasts come together and help each other face their feelings. Connor and Emmaline help us remember to enjoy the moment and cherish those we love for we don’t know how much time we have. Lots of warm fuzzies in this book.
  • Emmaline and Conor

When Emmaline wins a trip to Hawaii to stay at the White Sands Resort, her friend, Gina, challenges her to have a fling while she’s there. Emmaline meets Conor as he’s trying to check in and the clerk keeps trying to give him unwanted, free drink and food vouchers. Emmaline says she’ll take them. They meet again out by the pool and Conor approaches her and they use all the drink vouchers and then Conor starts paying, lol. This makes me want to have one of those drinks. Conor is there for a work meeting, but he’s enjoying his time with Emmaline. One thing leads to another and she decides he’s the perfect choice to have her fling with. Before they can sleep together, Conor gets a phone call telling him his dad has passed away and he has to leave. At least they did get some sexy times in. They didn’t give last names or any personal details and figure they’ll never see each other again. Of course, the story can’t end here and thankfully the story we get to read is a steamy page turner. Turns out, Conor’s dad is Steve Gault, the legendary singer and owner of Blue Drake Resort, in Lake Bittersweet. Six months later, Conor has quit his job and arrived to help out his sister Carly with the Blue Drake. Emmaline and her family learn that the payments for Henry’s caregivers at the Lakeland Home Care Agency has stopped. They depend on the help, so Emmaline goes to Blue Drake to find out why the payments stopped. Imagine her surprise to see Conor again. I won’t leave any spoilers, but I will say this was a touching story about secrets, loving family, finding love, and friends helping each other. Grab your copy and see what happens. I highly recommend this entire series. I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.

When you think it is safe to have a fling...This is what Emmaline thinks when she lets herself go for the first time in years while vacationing in Hawaii. She has always been responsible, considerate, loyal and devoted to her family especially her brother, Henry who has brain damage from a car accident several years ago. Conor, a financial wizard, has always been serious, hard-working and extremely successful ever since a fateful night hanging out with his college friends. So, his chance encounter, while in Hawaii for business, with the blatantly honest and cute Emmaline, Conor decides to enjoy the attraction they share with a fling. I found this story to be entertaining with wit and charm, romantic and emotional with a surprise or two thrown in to keep you on your toes. I love this story and how Emmaline and John grow, heal and lay to rest their misconceptions of the people around them. It is very touching to witness how the happy ever after finally comes for these two deserving characters. I don't believe there is a romantic out there that wouldn't love this book!

Something changed in both Conor and Emmaline during their abbreviated fling in Hawaii. Conor became more open and less career driven while Emmaline put it all aside to concentrate on her family. They meet once again, unexpectedly, in her hometown of Lake Bittersweet, where his father was from. Life sure has a way of surprising you, doesn't it. While Conor is interested in starting again, because those "fling" feelings just might be more for him, Emmaline is less inclined, given the differences in their lives. But their slow burn romance, that really emphasizes just how much they really got to know each other in a short period of time, is delightfully sweet and sexy at the same time. Not to give anything away, but I really loved Ms. Bernard's gentle but real depiction of her brother and his friendship with Conor. As well as secrets uncovered. It was a great addition to the series.

A*R*C for honest review with no compensation The Fling is book 2 in the Lake Bittersweet series by Jennifer Bernard and another great book about the ladies of Lake Bittersweet. Up next is Emmaline Curtis and Connor Gault’s story..the saying is what happens in Vegas (except this is Hawaii) stays there and it does for a few months. When Connor goes to Lake Bittersweet after the death of his father, doing his best to figure out who he is or wants to be and comes face to face with Emmaline…what happens next will keep you on your toes wondering where it all will end… Mystery, twists, turns, secrets, sparks, finally understanding the past and looking to move toward the future…

I am loving this new series set in Lake Bittersweet. This time we get Conor Gault’s story. I liked how this book opened 6 months in the past to give us the back story of Conor and how he came to meet Emmaline and why they parted the way they did. And fast forward 6 months and how they came to be in each other’s lives again.. shocking them both. I loved both Conor and Emmaline and how they were perfect for each other. They both had things happen in their past that were still affecting their lives now and together they were able to help each other heal and to fall in love. I am looking forward to Emmaline’s friend, Gina’s story next. I even have an idea of who Conor wants to set her up with. After meeting Conor previously in books this was the perfect story for him. Can’t wait for more Lake Bittersweet books!
