Description

The #1 New York Times bestseller

Is it possible to eat normally, five days a week, and become slimmer and healthier as a result?

Simple answer: yes. You just limit your calorie intake for two nonconsecutive days each week—500 calories for women, 600 for men. You’ll lose weight quickly and effortlessly with the FastDiet.

Scientific trials of intermittent fasters have shown that it will not only help the pounds fly off, but also reduce your risk of a range of diseases from diabetes to cardiovascular disease and even cancer. “The scientific evidence is strong that intermittent fasting can improve health,” says Dr. Mark Mattson, Chief of the Laboratory of Neurosciences, National Institute on Aging, and Professor of Neuroscience, Johns Hopkins University.

This book brings together the results of new, groundbreaking research to create a dietary program that can be incorporated into your busy daily life, featuring:

• Forty 500- and 600-calorie meals that are quick and easy to make
• 8 pages of photos that show you what a typical “fasting meal” looks like
• The cutting-edge science behind the program
• A calorie counter that makes dieting easy
• And much more.

Far from being just another fad, the FastDiet is a radical new way of thinking about food, a lifestyle choice that could transform your health. This is your indispensable guide to simple and effective weight loss, without fuss or the need to endlessly deprive yourself.

According to The Fast Diet, our genes’ ability to handle a sustained lack of calorie consumption can be traced back to our early ancestral roots; the deprivation of food, be it intermittent fasting or famine conditions triggers our bodies the way it may have done for cave women. The author’s write that not only does this adaptive cellular response link us to the past, the SIRT1 gene helps us survive; it actually supports increased brain activity, weight loss, and hormonal health. Fasting, then, may be an ancient way to reboot our modern systems.

The Fast Diet Cookbook is an alternative to the same old, same old Diet. It offers a simple yet manageable way to loose weight. This book offers a nice explanation of how to start a 5/2 plan, eat for 5 days and fast for 2. It lays out all the do and don'ts of how to follow the plan. It offers daily food plans, and guides you through with easy to use recipes. This book explains the benefits of fasting on the 2 day fast, it outlines what foods can be eaten and what calorie amount should be eaten. It offers food choices and meal plans. What I especially found helpful was the recipe's, meal plans and measuring charts. Also laid out was the benefits of doing this type of plan listing how it can help some of the health issues people face when being over weight. I find it easy to read and follow with a lot of great tips that can be helpful to all.

"The Fast Diet in 30 Minutes" by Michael Mosley and Mimi Spencer is a new twist on an old idea. In this book the authors refresh the idea of fasting with their 5:2 diet/lifestyle plan. This diet plan incorporates 5 days of a sensible diet followed by 2 days of what they call fasting but the fasting days include two small light meals. A lot of the diet is based on how our body produces and uses insulin as well as explains how fat is stored and utilized. A well written and informative book that includes a lot of real world food choices. Anyone that can follow this food plan will be sure to feel better and look better.

Not bad, as far as it goes, but very short for $10. While there is substantial research behind the health aspects of fasting, the actual details of the diet are slapdash and not particularly well worked out. Everything you need to know can be found on the web.

I have never felt so liberated about my health and diet in my 26 years of being an adult. I've read all the books, studied articles, and watched too many TV shows about what to eat, when to eat, how to eat, etc. Dr. Mosley has, in about 1500 humorous, easy to read pages, revolutionized everything I thought I knew about getting and staying healthy. It may take some time to become un-indoctrinated by modern propaganda of food manufacturers and industries. The brainwashing is deeply rooted, but freedom comes easily in the form of this delightful book. The journey to a better, healthier me has been simple and simply amazing. I wish the whole world would read the FastDiet to learn how to change the course of their entire health history, and therefore their future, just by fasting 2 days a week (and its not even a total fast.) I know it's changed me from the inside out.

Enjoyed it! Sounds like a diet that would be easy to follow and stick to. The health benefits alone are worth giving it a try. Weight loss will be just a nice added bonus.
