This work is both a textbook for reading and understanding Biblical, or Koine, Greek, and a comparison of the writing style of the Gospel of John to that of the other three gospels. Abbott underlines the many ways in which the composition of the fourth gospel differs from that of the other synoptics, in addition to the other Greek writings of the New Testament. Abbott includes chapters on the loaded theological words commonly employed by the author of the Gospel of John. This book has a companion volume, “Johannine Grammar,” but the “Vocabulary” is intended for a general audience—no Greek knowledge required.
