Description

The Real Books are the best-selling jazz books of all time. Since the 1970s, musicians have trusted these volumes to get them through every gig, night after night. The problem is that the books were illegally produced and distributed, without any regard to copyright law, or royalties paid to the composers who created these musical masterpieces. Hal Leonard is very proud to present the first legitimate and legal editions of these books ever produced. You won't even notice the difference, other than that all of the notorious errors have been fixed: the covers and typeface look the same and the song list is nearly identical. Every conscientious musician will appreciate that these books are now produced accurately and ethically, benefitting the songwriters that we owe for some of the greatest tunes of all time] Includes 400 songs: All Blues * Au Privave * Autumn Leaves * Black Orpheus * Bluesette * Body and Soul * Bright Size Life * Con Alma * Dolphin Dance * Don't Get Around Much Anymore * Easy Living * Epistrophy * Falling in Love with Love * Footprints * Four on Six * Giant Steps * Have You Met Miss Jones? * How High the Moon * I'll Remember April * Impressions * Lullaby of Birdland * Misty * My Funny Valentine * Oleo * Red Clay * Satin Doll * Sidewinder * Stella by Starlight * Take Five * There Is No Greater Love * Wave * and hundreds more]

Wish I would’ve read all the reviews. Waste of money. Have this in paperback, but wanted a digital version. Great to have the melodies/changes in a pinch. However, if you have have trouble seeing the notes, what’s the point? Can’t go full screen on phone. No zoom function. Lead sheets take up barely 1/2 the screen. Difficult to see unless maybe reading on a laptop. Hopefully whoever put this out fixes it.

On larger viewing mode it goes out side of the margins on the newest versions of iPad so you can’t read all measures. Hope the is a fix for this.
  • Great electronic access, but problem with two-page tunes

This version of the Real Book provides a great way to leave your heavy paper versions at home, but with one caveat. The iBooks version includes all of the charts from the paper edition, with clear typography that works well for performing using an iPad. You can look up tunes in the index, and also find tunes by searching for titles or composers. The only issue is that page breaks are wrong for two-page tunes. When you view the book on an iPad in landscape mode, you can see two pages at a time, but there is always a page turn between the two pages. Despite the careful treatment of this issue in the paper edition, in the iBooks version, the first page of each two-page tune always falls on the right hand side, with the second page only available after a page turn. I've reported the problem to Hal Leonard, and hope they fix this problem soon.

Well, now I have this volume of the Real Book in my iBooks folder. However, this version is not usable in the iGigBook app, according to that app's developer. Get this if you don't mind using iBooks to read it, but skip iGigBook.

Itunes says I have the latest Ibooks update and yet this book is considered “corrupt” and i can no longer view the book. I love the book, I’ve used it many times, somebody please make this book compatible, I paid for this and now It’s no longer useful to me
  • Great space saver

Just double tap the music to zoom to full screen. It ends up being as big or bigger than print. It's not scalable like text because its formatted as one big picture
  • Next to Unuseable

Bought it the typeface for the author and name is scaleable But the music is not. No way to do playlists. Someone's cropped the real page numbers from the actual real book. Sad to see that I paid for something I can't use.
  • Most useful eBook I own

My iPad has now replaced a stack of real books on all my gigs. Tunes are easily zoomed in on, and it's incredibly useful to search for tunes rather than thumb through 400 pages.
  • Small typeface

The typeface is too small to read from a music stand. I hope someone fixes that.
