This ambitious tale weaves a grand narrative of the construction of the Union Pacific Railroad line, which serves as the backdrop for a tender romance that blooms between the virtuous Allie and the mysterious and taciturn protagonist, Warren Neale.

A wonderful historical novel of the building of the Union Pacific railroad. Insights into the lives of the planners, the builders, and the followers who leeched their lives and money from them were eye opening. A strong-hearted love story is twined within. Good reading for the lovers of wild places. The passing away of these places and their inhabitants, the Native Americans, and the early trappers who appreciated the Indian lifestyle, is a poignant look into the history of our nation.

So far the best of Zanes works although the constant capture of Allie was a little unbelievable I enjoyed this book
