St. Teresa of Avila was a prominent Spanish mystic who became a theologian of contemplative life through mental prayer. This distinguished her alongside St. John of the Cross, both of whom reformed the Carmelite Order. After her death in the late 16th century, she was canonized as a Roman Catholic Saint.
St. Teresa was also a writer during the Counter Reformation. El Castillo Interior (The Interior Castle) or Las Moradas (The Mansions) was written by St. Teresa of Avila in 1577. The work is based on a revelation Teresa believed was from God, and in the vision she saw a crystal globe in the shape of a castle, which contained seven mansions. St. Teresa went about attempting to interpret the vision, going on to describe the journey of faith through seven stages. The journey ends with a union with God.
This edition of St. Teresa’s The Interior Castle is illustrated with depictions of St. Teresa, Reformation leaders, Counter Reformation leaders, and more. A table of contents is also included for easier navigation.
