The entire series of Disney iBooks for kids is depressingly awful. The writing is terrible and the moral take-aways are even worse.
This Tinker Bell book feels like it was written in a half day by a random freelance copywriter recruited off craigslist - probably one that finished a set of McDonalds print ad coupons the day before. And given my day job, including professional experience with large corporate new media production, I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that this is darn close to the truth.
Tinker Bell is somehow endowed with emotional yearnings that come from nowhere and cannot be fulfilled except in the ways dictated to her by others. Her specific talents, or lack thereof, are predetermined and immediately judged. No room whatsoever for concepts such as practice or perseverance or internal compass.
And her friend is hugely overweight.
If we raise our kids with books like this, the only beneficiaries will be the media food industrial complex.
So sad. I know you won't be able to avoid purchasing this book. Great graphics at a terrific price are the lipstick on this evil pig.
