Alex let’s go with “Books that read more like TV scripts with one dimensional characters” please. This book has not stood the test of time, only reads well if you live or lived in San Francisco, and will be enjoyed by those people that like reading Michael Douglas & Karl Malden “Streets of San Francisco” TV type scripts... Boring...!!!

I can't imagine reading this as a serial in a newspaper as I would have been beside myself to know what happened next! Truly incredible, well-written adventure into lives that seem to oddly and unexpectedly intermingle. Although I've never lived in San Francisco, my partner was there in the Haight-Ashbury throughout the '70s and while the story takes place in another part of town, it still have a great feeling of what it must have been like for him there. I can't wait to continue to the next book. A small thing, but this is one of the best iBooks I've read with virtually no errors.

I just couldn't get into this. Too much like a romance novel.
  • Quick, easy, and entertaining read!

Loved this book and can't wait to get started on the next. It definitely pulls you in and you will find yourself saying "Just a few more pages" into the late hours of the night.

How come this is listed under Great Books $3.99 and less, but it is really $9.99 - Bait and Switch!
  • A bit dated, but interesting

The characters and intertwining stories are really interesting, but most of the references from this 1976 story went WAY over my head. It's definitely not a "timeless" story, but in the end I enjoyed it anyway. Now I'd like to read the other books in the series.
  • A fast funny but twisty soap opera

Life in San Francisco. Everyone should live there for a time. If you don't get that chance, at least try it vicariously through these stories!
  • Wonderful!

I really enjoyed this first novel in the "Tales" series. I've seen the movies, and I can't wait to start the next book of the series. I'm going straight to the next novel. A great read!
