Description

THE FIRST NOVEL IN THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING ELDER RACES SERIES!

Half-human and half-wyr, Pia Giovanni spent her life keeping a low profile among the wyrkind and avoiding the continuing conflict between them and their Dark Fae enemies. But after being blackmailed into stealing a coin from the hoard of a dragon, Pia finds herself targeted by one of the most powerful—and passionate—of the Elder races.

As the most feared and respected of the wyrkind, Dragos Cuelebre cannot believe someone had the audacity to steal from him, much less succeed. And when he catches the thief, Dragos spares her life, claiming her as his own to further explore the desire they’ve ignited in each other.

Pia knows she must repay Dragos for her trespass, but refuses to become his slave—although she cannot deny wanting him, body and soul...

Holy wow! This book was amazing, it started out as a random read (audio book) for the long drive across country and turned into NEEDING to buy the entire series! From other comments you can read the plot and characters but I just have to say Thea harrison k n ow how to transport yiu to another world. The characters are lovable and frustrating in all the right ways. It's definitely rated R, which is every bit as amazing as the main story line. Worth every penny! 😜 you'll get the penny reference when you read the book. I'm dying for this to be a mini series or a TV show or a movie! Someone make this happen

I did overall really like this story and I spent most of my Saturday binge reading it. The main complaint was frequently the dialogue between characters became really immature and childish. Had quite a bit of cringe factor at times that had to be ignored to enjoy the story. Although I couldn’t put this one down it is for this reason that I am not going to continue with the series.

Loved this. This book turned me into a huge Thea Harrison fan. If you like fantasy/paranormal romance or are a fan of Kresley Cole or Gena Showalter then definitely check this series out.
  • Too Much...

Before I read the book, I skimmed through the acknowledgements and was surprised to know how many eyes passed over these pages before it was published. I expected the book to be well edited, but I suppose there’s only so much an editor can do before they’re basically writing the whole thing over. There was too much unnecessary detail that stole both character development and plot flow from this novel. I don’t care if Pia opens her yogurt, takes a bite, has an almond, untwists the cap from her water bottle, takes a swig, caps her water bottle, looks out the window, looks at Dragos, looks back out the window. As a reader, I didn’t understand why that was important for me to know because it read like actions to me instead of two characters reacting dynamically to each other. It was stiff and lacking of engagement. Another thing I noted was the overuse of... He did this and this. He did this. He felt this and did this. He is doing way too much. He is overused. She did this. She felt this and did this. She did this too. She is overused too. The characters were very flat to me, the writing was very stiff and unnecessarily wordy, and the plot, slow to move.

I love the story, the characters, the world building... If you love romance with a bit of magic, you’ll love this couple. There is humor, mystery, wonder, character growth for both protagonists and a new world to discover here. You won’t regret it. ...as they say: “In for a penny...” ☺️
