Description

Now a Hallmark Hall of Fame television movie (CHRISTMAS WITH HOLLY), the first book in New York Times bestseller Lisa Kleypas's Friday Harbor series begins during the most magical time of year...

One rain-slicked night, six-year-old Holly lost the only parent she knew, her beloved mother Victoria. And since that night, she has never again spoken a word.

The last thing Mark Nolan needs is a six-year-old girl in his life. But he soon realizes that he will do everything he can to make her life whole again. His sister's will gives him the instructions: There's no other choice but you. Just start by loving her. The rest will follow.

Maggie Collins doesn't dare believe in love again, after losing her husband of one year. But she does believe in the magic of imagination. As the owner of a toy shop, she lives what she loves. And when she meets Holly Nolan, she sees a little girl in desperate need of a little magic.

Three lonely people. Three lives at the crossroads. Three people who are about to discover that Christmas is the time of year when anything is possible, and when wishes have a way of finding the path home...in Lisa Kleypas's Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor.

I was immediately engrossed from the very 1st page. What a sad, yet beautiful story about loss, love, and starting over! Once you start reading it, it's just so hard to put down. I am sad to say I have to agree with others that for the price of the book I expected many more pages. I was surprised that it was so short. There were many ways the story could have been expanded, like including the Long lost father of the little girl, more about the widows husband and illness, the list goes on. I do understand the author has a vision for their stories, but us, as the reader, are able to see ways it could grow. I've paid much less for bigger books (longer) by very accomplished authors, but I do have to say the story was well worth it. I hadn't heard of Lisa Kleypas before this book (I found it by chance, just browsing the iBook store) but now I'm a huge fan and plan to read all her books (as long as they are just as good as this one). I've just downloaded the Friday Harbor books already out and preordered "Crystal Cove" which is due to be released in February 2013. Happy reading!!!!

This is a well-written, to-the-point love story. Though the characters are all likable and I enjoyed the read, I am a little bothered that it was such a short story. This took my 5 hours to read. For the price of the book I wish it had occupied more time. As it is, I find that this book would have been better suited as a novella in a collection of stories rather than its own, single copy.

I love this author. While the book was good the price unreasonable for the length.

The book was good, easy to read, with likable characters. The reason for my giving it only two stars was the ending, or more accurately, the lack of closure at the end of the book. I read for enjoyment and being totally left hanging takes away the enjoyment. I can't decide if this author simply got tired of the story or was told that it was long enough. Regardless of the reason, I won't bother with this author again.

This book is amazing. It shows many aspects of life and how to persevere after something tragic. Love it.

I love Lisa Kleypas, but this wasn't a novel--more like a novella and a pretty hefty price for so few pages
