Description

In the first novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling Dresden Files series, Harry Dresden’s investigation of a grisly double murder pulls him into the darkest depths of magical Chicago…

As a professional wizard, Harry Dresden knows firsthand that the “everyday” world is actually full of strange and magical things—and most of them don’t play well with humans. And those that do enjoy playing with humans far too much. He also knows he’s the best at what he does. Technically, he’s the only at what he does. But even though Harry is the only game in town, business—to put it mildly—stinks.

So when the Chicago P.D. bring him in to consult on a double homicide committed with black magic, Harry's seeing dollar signs. But where there's black magic, there's a black mage behind it. And now that mage knows Harry's name...

“A great series—fast-paced, vividly realized and with a hero/narrator who’s excellent company.”—Cinescape

A great reread if you had the pleasure of reading the entire series since 2000. Introduces a lot of the beloved recurring characters and fleshes out a lot of the magic system. Also this is a classic murder mystery format. Really brings you back to the early days

I would give it 5 stars but I’ve yet to see if this is the best these books can get although I’ve heard this one is one of the worst. That being said if this is one of the worst in the series it’s going to be a great time!

This is nice combination of 2 of my favorite genre’s, sarcastic detective (Spenser for Hire) and Fantasy (JRR). With that in mind, I found this an enjoyable escape into a good read. Looking forward to reading some of the follow on chapters of this likable character. If you enjoy either genre, you’ll enjoy this.

I love this book series almost more than any other I have ever read. It is one of the best and most captivating reads I have found to date. I’m writing this review mainly for people who need something solid to sit with on a day where you need some alone time allow yourself to be immersed in an awesome and crazy magical world. This is just the first book and I promise you it just gets better :-)

I have serious doubts about whether the first book alone is worth finishing, let alone whether I should even attempt to continue the series. Who on earth writes this garbage?

As an avid book reader who got my start as a kid reading Harry Potter, the Dresden Files was a terrific transition into adult fantasy fiction. I’ve read through the series multiple times and it is by far my favorite book series of all time. Characters are all fantastic and extremely well written and the stories are always engaging and exciting. Highly recommend these books!!

A nice introduction to the world of Dresden. While I was hesitant at first, after the story got going I enjoyed this one a lot, and was ready for more.

Don’t see what all the hype is about concerning the Dresden Files, maybe the series get better, but this book was definitely a let down, considering all the rave reviews, and advertising.
