Description

Ken Follett’s The Key to Rebecca took readers and critics by storm when first published forty years ago. Today, it remains one of the best espionage novels ever written.

A brilliant and ruthless Nazi master agent is on the loose in Cairo. His mission is to send Rommel’s advancing army the secrets that will unlock the city’s doors. In all of Cairo, only two people can stop him. One is a down-on-his-luck English officer no one will listen to. The other is a vulnerable young Jewish girl. . . .

Loosely based on a history, this is a gripping read with the pace quickening throughout. Characters from heroes to villains are well drawn.

The transcription in this book was apparently done by computer; numerous obvious mistakes, the most vexing of which to readers is the confusion between the names Kemel and Kernel, which apparently indicate the same character. Towards the end, as the action picks up, the writing becomes almost juvenile, simplistic and lacks the credibility of the early chapters. An exciting story but the shortcomings leave it less than credible.

I loved this spy thriller! Follett is a master at transporting the reader to the time and place of the story! What a roller coaster ride!! Right up there with eye of the needle! Follett and LeCarre are masters of this type of story telling, well done!

This book was very similar to Eye of the Needle, With a strong woman helping to destroy the villain in a WW 2 setting. Not impressed.
  • As all Follett’s books, turns and twists.

There is a lot of action and overall, it is a thrilling experience. There are some rated R moments, so this might not be for the little kids.
