These nooks are short but glorious.

Jack Campbell takes the story of the lost band of warriors travelling through enemy territory, has it spanning 6 books, and consistently delivers even through this third book in the series. Wow. The ending alone was perfect. Having Captain Geary constantly struggling between his own actions as the commander of a fleet using forgotten tactics and the bravado of the ‘Black Jack Geary’ persona that hangs on his shoulders makes it all that much more epic.

[This review is for the first 3 books of the Lost Fleet series.] “Dauntless” starts with a rush and then settles down into the nuts and bolts of large-scale naval … I mean … space warfare. At first, it seems interesting, though a bit shallow. However, “Fearless” and “Courageous” add nothing to the first novel. It’s obviously a one-trick concept: formatted battles with confusing geometrical formations and victory against all odds. The same character emotions over and over. A beauty (or curse?) of e-readers is the ability to search key phrases; in these novels the same sentences are repeated over and over. That’s lazy writing. So, good beginning. Then, monotonous retread.

I love everything about these books (so far to be fair). They are all excellently written with a perfectly blended parts of action, description, talking, and mind-bending twists. I bought Dauntless for a trip to just try it out because I saw Elizabeth Moon had commented on the series with praise, and I love her books. After reading the first one, I am totally hooked! I recommend these to anyone who loves space battling books!

Space battles, political intrigue, character development, and an author that keeps you on your toes - what more could you want? This is another great book in the series.
