"The perfect summer read" (Booklist) from New York Times bestselling author Elin Hilderbrand: an intense tale of love and loyalty set against the backdrop of endless summer island life.  With rumors of infidelity straining Greg and Tess MacAvoy's marriage, the couple head out on their sailboat one early summer day to celebrate their wedding anniversary, hoping the roughest waters are behind them. But in an accident off Nantucket, they mysteriously drown, leaving behind two small children as well as three couples who have long been their closest friends. Tragedy brings to the surface long-simmering conflicts and emotions, and the MacAvoys' six grieving friends find themselves unprepared for the revelation of secret upon secret as they struggle to answer the question: What happened to Greg and Tess?

The Castaways probes the boundaries of friendship and forgiveness as it tells a page-turning story of passion, betrayal, and suspense, filled with the perfect details of summer island life that have made Elin Hilderbrand's novels beloved bestsellers.

The book was interesting and fun. The ending was a giant let down. Felt like I wasted my time.

The beginning of the book is very interesting, but does the ending become a murder mystery or accidental??

Story was fair, ending was mediocre , I thought the ending should have been a little more dramatic , there was a whole lot of run up to it and then......not much., I wouldnt recommend it, but I wouldn't say don't read it. Characters were just ok, sometimes hard to follow who was who, which ones were married to each other, etc... Just 3 stars.

This book is unique in the sense that the author let you into each individual's thoughts. I love how you get the feel of how they all get to tell their story and the connection they have with one another. It's heartwarming & so humanly touching in a way that you feel connected to each characters.

Wonderful, marvelous book --read during a summer when my best friend died unexpectedly. The book was actually healing, restorative. I highly recommend it!

I had a hard time following all of the characters in this book. It was confusion who was with who...I recently read The Island The Blue Bistro and enjoyed these books much more than The Castaways. Maybe because the book was just so sad.

I was reeled by the initial bomb drop of a mystery at the very beginning, but page after page of some fairly annoying main characters, I was disappointed how it all came together in the end. I wasn't expecting a suspense thriller or anything like that, but it didn't much care for the book overall.
