Description

From USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR Jennifer Bernard comes an opposites-attract standalone romance in the Lost Harbor, Alaska series.

Dr. Ian Finnegan knows all about brains; hearts, not so much. He’s ready to find the perfect match, someone as logical and sensible as he is. When it's suggested that he should improve his seduction skills, he’s not sure where to turn—until he plucks a damsel in distress from the side of a snowy Alaska highway. She might be a “hot mess,” but Chrissie Yates could be just the fun and flirty tutor he needs.

Chrissie hasn’t been back to Lost Harbor since her eccentric recluse of a grandfather sent her away at the age of seventeen. Her family now consists of her beloved yellow lab and her broken-down car. Why Gramps has left her his property, she has no idea. She hopes to get in and out as quickly as she can, but reconnecting with old friends and her quirky hometown makes her yearn for something she didn’t know she needed. Then there’s the sexy newcomer…

Flirting lessons turn to something more passionate, as Chrissie makes Ian feel things he never dreamed. Is it possible he had the wrong idea about who’s right for him? Can he put his new skills to good use … before a deadly storm threatens all he holds dear?

Well written fun and original story. The characters really came to life and I enjoyed each of them in safe harbor and yatesville. Can’t wait to read more. I highly recommend this book.

First time reading this author. Really cute story although I could have done without the descriptive sex. It just seems to be in every romance book.
  • Nerdy Professional vs Hot Mess

Dr Ian Finnegan is logical, sensible, and a little bit nerdy. He lives a structured life, but is ready to find his one true love. He’s methodical to a fault. He hires a “coach” of sorts that sets him up with his ideal mate. He doesn’t have a lot of time between his job and caring for his nephew, but he knows if he finds the “right one” she’ll understand. After picking up his nephew, Bo, they’re traveling down the highway when they come upon a woman stranded by the side of the road. It looks as if she may be in trouble, so he stops to offer a ride. That could just be the ride of a lifetime... Chrissie’s car almost made it to Lost Harbor. While stranded on the side of the road, a group of men approach to offer a ride...and more. Much to her relief, another car stops and she pretends it’s her boyfriend coming to her rescue. She quickly gets her dog, her belongings, and hops into the stranger’s car. Chrissie and Bo hit it off immediately, but Ian thinks she’s a “hot mess”. He’s not entirely wrong. She left Lost Harbor after her eccentric grandfather kicked her out as a teen and has never been back. Her grandfather passed away, leaving her the dreaded duty of handling his property. While she cherished her time and friends in Lost Harbor, she dreads coming back to confront the painful memories. Although Chrissie is fun, quirky, and lives life to the fullest, she is a little bit of a “mess”. Albeit a lovable one. When Chrissie offers to tutor Ian in the “ways to win a woman’s heart by flirting”, Ian accepts. The flirting lessons turn into so much more. But Ian refuses to believe the two of them could be a “match” as they are too different. But are they really... The nerdy, professional guy gets the girl! I loved their talks, Chrissie’s independence and acceptance—especially of Bo. I enjoyed Chrissie’s journey down memory lane and how as an adult, she was able to see that her grandfather was trying to protect her. The lighthouse was an added special touch! I loved that Chrissie, aka hot mess, was an intelligent, strong willed woman. She was a flight medic! Bo’s flair for life and love for his Uncle Ian was adorable. Lastly, I loved the ending! Awesome addition to the Lost Harbor series! I can’t wait to read the next one. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

This story gives a sideline course in flirty talk - and its uses as casual interjections to defensive weapons. Honestly, I’m more the Ian type, where some of that goes completely over my head unless it’s spelled out, so I actually learned from this. But the extrovert-introvert love story with plenty of road blocks along the way was a very satisfying read, and I liked the build-up for future Lost Harbor HEAs to come!

What a sweet, wonderful, fun and flirty love story about two people who come to love and accept each other faults and all. When Chrissie first meets Ian, he seems like a bit of a stuffed shirt, but as we find out that is not the case at all. He’s awkward, brilliant and introverted, but definitely not stuck up. And while he may be nerdy and awkward with people, there is one place he is not awkward in the least. Just ask Chrissie. Chrissie is so sweet and sort of chaotic and seems like a bit of a free spirit. But there is so much more to her. In fact she is back in Lost Harbor on quite the emotional journey. So many things have happened to shape who she is and Ian wants to know all of them. She may be giving him flirting lessons but he will eventually teach her how to trust and love again. Her heart has been broken and being the doctor he is, he wants to fix it. They may be different in many ways but they are so perfect for each other on so many levels. They may be sweet, flirty and steamy together but they really balance each other out emotionally too. I love them together! Oh and I just love his nephew Bo so much too! Just be you, Bo! And of course, Shuri! Can’t forget her. The story of how they meet melts my heart. Love this series! Love these characters! Love this story! I can’t wait for more from the beautiful town of Lost Harbor, Alaska .

Oh my gosh, what fun it was to watch serious and stuffy Dr Ian meet his match! Chrissie is his polar opposite in every way. She calls herself a hot mess, I call it a bag of fun! After a very unique childhood in Lost Harbor and ultimate return years later, Chrissie is a flirty free spirit who intrigues Ian...partially against his will. Opposites who attract has never been so charming or so perfectly imperfect for each other. As much as I love our main couple, though, my favorite character was Ian’s nephew, Bo. Or more accurately, how Jennifer Bernard wrote both Bo himself and his relationship with his “Uncle Brain”. It was beautiful that the man who always felt different and misplaced in his own family, openly embraced the nephew who was uniquely himself. No explanations, no drama, just love. That, to me, was the real love story. Two huge thumbs up!

What a wonderful addition to the Lost Harbor series. Ian is a neurosurgeon and Chrissie is a pilot. She left Lost Harbor after her grandfather kicked her out and has now returned to deal with Yatesville, after his death. Chrissie meets Ian and his nephew, Bo, when they come to her rescue. Her car, Prince Valiant, breaks down and they happen along at the perfect time because a truck of men can’t take the hint that she’s not interested. When Ian asks Chrissie to help him with flirting lessons, the fun begins. I won’t leave any spoilers, so grab your copy and get ready to fall in love with more amazing characters in this series. I received an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
