Joyas del Arte Taino

Con la desaparición física de los habitantes taínos de nuestra tierra, son sus objetos más duraderos — piezas de arte de sofisticada belleza hechas en piedra, concha, madera o cerámica— los que nos permiten tratar de descifrar su legado. Hay miles de ellos en las colecciones de la Smithsonian Institution; a través del Centro Latino Smithsonian se llevó a cabo un proyecto de investigación sobre el legado indígena del Caribe con el Museo Nacional del Indígena Americano, el Museo Nacional de Historia Natural en Santo Domingo y varios colaboradores en América y Europa.

As our Taíno ancestors practically vanished from our land, their legacy lives on through the objects they left behind —sophisticatedly beautiful artworks made from stone, shell, wood or earthenware. There are thousands of them to be found in the collections of the Smithsonian Institution; therefore, the Smithsonian Latino Center lead a research project on the indigenous legacy within the Caribbean region, alongside the National Museum of the American Indian, the Museum of Natural History in Santo Domingo and several collaborators located in the American continent and Europe.
