Description

Mere Christianity has sold millions of copies worldwide in over half a century. It is one of the most popular introductions to the Christian faith ever written. This classic brings together C. S. Lewis's legendary broadcast talks from the war years in which he set out to simply "explain and defend the belief that has been common to nearly all Christians at all times." By rejecting the many boundaries that has been dividing Christianity’s many denominations for centuries, Lewis provides an unparalleled opportunity for both believers and unbelievers alike to hear a powerful, rational case for the Christian faith. This book is a collection of sparkling brilliance that is strikingly fresh for the modern reader and at the same time confirms C. S. Lewis’ reputation as one of the foremost writers and thinkers of all time.

“If wit and wisdom, style and scholarship are requisites to passage through the pearly gates, Mr. Lewis will be among the angels.”
- THE NEW YORKER

“Lewis is the ideal persuader for the half-convinced, for the good man who would like to be a Christian but finds his intellect getting in the way.”
- NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW

“It is not surprising that Lewis’s time-proven views are still flourishing while most other mid-20th-century works are nearly neglected.”
- WALL STREET JOURNAL

“C. S. Lewis understood, like few in the past century, just how deeply faith is both imaginative and rational.”
- CHRISTIANITY TODAY

Lewis’ ability to breakdown key and sometimes complex subjects is unmatched. His love for all people, wherever they are at, is evident on every page and sorely missed in todays debate/gotcha culture. And, in my opinion, his commitment to the Bible - making no concessions for cultural exceptions is so difficult to find.
  • A must for believers

This book is a staple, a standard, and timeless classic for believers, and a epiphany for unbelievers; a must read, and read again. The deeply thought out concepts it contains will answer many questions and cause you to ponder many more. Basic apologetics start here if anywhere.

Every curious thinking person should read this book. The author gives great and logical explanations to very hard concepts. Good read in general.

It’s a good introduction for unbelievers yet also very deep in inspiring for believers and thinkers of any faith and background
  • Keep in mind the time period the book is written.

The book is actually a consolidation of many articles written over a period of time therefor does not have a flow to it that a reader would expect. Definitely a disappointment from author of his high caliber. He switches from one topic to another without thought given to completion or complexity of one then moves on to a completely different point. My review is written in in a similar fashion as the book. Never figured out how he went from an atheist to a Christian, I suspect I know why and plan to leave it at that. If you are looking for a book to help you fall asleep at night I could recommend this one otherwise there are some great books on Christianity.sadly this is not one of them.

This book shouldn’t be a guide of a reference to good Christian living this is just a book of C.S. Lewis’s opinion of how it ought to be. If you are looking for answers about faith please do not look to this book. Instead go to your local church and ask your priest who respected religious figure.
