Over the centuries, the world has moved progressively from a mind-set that accepts handed-down tenets and values unquestionably, into a “show me” culture. It is the mind-set that says if you cannot see it, then you have no basis for believing it. To show assurance of what you cannot see is considered superstitious, while to feel confident about what you only hope for is deemed unrealistic and whimsical. If we observe things we cannot explain, or there seems to be a gap in our logical explanation of what seems to be supernatural, we are encouraged to develop a plausible theory to fill the gap. We even get awards and credentials for such theories!
