Description

Honorably discharged from the Army after an explosion nearly killed her, former military psychiatrist Brooke Adams has set up shop to help others--but her days of helping military personnel are over. She's got her own battles to fight from her time overseas, and she's not equipped to take on more. Former Army Special Ops Sergeant First Class Asher James could handle anything that war sent his way--terrorists, bombs, bullets. The only thing that scares him now is sleep. As the shadows close in, the nightmares begin.

Finally convinced that he needs help, Asher makes an appointment with a counselor, and Brooke is pressed by her boss to take him on. When he arrives at her office she isn't there--but a dead body is. Brooke is devastated when she walks in, and Asher is a conveniently strong shoulder to cry on. But she can't take him on as a client after sharing such an intimate and unprofessional moment, can she? And he's not sure he can handle sharing his deepest fears with such a beautiful woman.

When it becomes clear that Brooke was the real target of the attack--and that her secrets go even deeper than his own--Asher vows to protect her no matter what.

Bestselling author Lynette Eason is back with a new series that spans the globe and will have your heart working overtime.

COLLATERAL DAMAGE by Lynette Eason is a fast-paced romantic suspense. I was hooked from the first page when a bomb goes off in a cafe in Afghanistan. It kills a soldier suspected of treason and seriously injuries Brooke Adams, a military psychiatrist. Before the soldier dies, he gives Brooke a bracelet, tells her he is not a traitor, and to tell his wife. Asher James, an army special ops sergeant first class rescues Brooke from the cafe. Several months later, Brooke has recovered and has left the military and is working in private practice. Asher has also left the military along with a friend from the military and is doing security work with him. A story about the bombing is released with pictures of Brooke talking to the soldier as he died. Asher sees the pictures and makes an appointment with Brooke. He's having problems with PTSD and thinks she could help him. He arrives at the office the next day and finds the secretary dead and fights off the attacker. After the police take their statements, Asher drives Brooke home to discover an intruder in her home. Asher fights him, but he escapes. They realize the attack at the office and her home are connected and realize Brooke was the intended victim, not the secretary. At every turn, Asher and Brooke are on the run for their lives, and at the same time. their attraction to each other grows. There are continual twists and turns that keep you turning pages. I loved it from beginning to end. I did have a few problems with the book, though.  It was a little too easy to guess the mystery, and I kept wondering why the characters weren't connecting the dots. Another objection I had was a secondary character wanted to adopt an Afghani girl but couldn't because she was Christian and the girl was Muslim. She wouldn't lie to save the girl. I found that troubling because I think someone that really cared enough about a child would do anything, including lie to save them. My last problem was Asher's brother. He was a little over-the-top for my tastes. But even so, I gave this a 4.5 stars. An outstanding romantic suspense.

James and his team didn’t believe it and didn’t want to do it, but orders had to be followed. Explosion, and his men rolled from the vehicle, they were ambushed. Military Psychologist Captain Adams six months almost up she was ready to go home, feeling drained. Meeting the girls she worked with,at a café, when an explosion happened . Knocked to the floor, then a man landed on her. Telling her he didn’t know , giving her an item to keep safe, it was Michael, and badly injured. He missed his appointment with her, would that have kept him safe. Returning home Brooke has her own battles to work thru. When her boss, as a counselor to see a certain client, that’s unable to sleep. It was Asher James, together with the pieces that happened in Afghanistan. They find murder and a different target now. A new series and a good one, it starts with a strong punch, and lives lost. What is going on, with a little romance, one turns the pages faster to get clues. Great beginning to this new series. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion by Net Galley and Montlake.
