Description

Mercy Thompson, car mechanic and shapeshifter, faces a threat unlike any other in this thrilling entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling series.

I am Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman.
My only “superpowers” are that I turn into a thirty-five pound coyote and fix Volkswagens. But I have friends in odd places and a pack of werewolves at my back. It looks like I'm going to need them.

Centuries ago, the fae dwelt in Underhill—until she locked her doors against them. They left behind their great castles and troves of magical artifacts. They abandoned their prisoners and their pets. Without the fae to mind them, those creatures who remained behind roamed freely through Underhill wreaking havoc. Only the deadliest survived.

Now one of those prisoners has escaped. It can look like anyone, any creature it chooses. But if it bites you, it controls you. It lives for chaos and destruction. It can make you do anything—even kill the person you love the most. Now it is here, in the Tri-Cities. In my territory.

It won't, can't, remain.

Not if I have anything to say about it.

Why so expensive? $13.99 for a book that is the same length as previous installments. I am sorry but from someone that has been following and reading your work from the beginning I find the price ridiculous.

I love this series! These books are always a page turner. I’ll find myself saying I’ll read this before bed and two hours later I’m like I need sleep but I can’t stop!

I have read the entire series, and also own them in audio format. I was listening to them when getting ready in the morning. Next thing I know I am listening to all the books in order again with my husband since “I want to know what happened to Zee” was all I heard for a week solid. Fantastic novel like always!

I honestly expected more. I like the new bad guy but there is always a new bad guy in each book so that’s pretty much expected. But I wanted more.

Mercy’s World is always so interesting. There are many beloved characters, fae, human, and the Columbia Basin pack members. (Plus some who are unloveable.) This story was complex and entertaining. I think that the best part of these novels is Mercy and Adam’s loving and caring relationship, but with the witchcraft crippling that beautiful relationship, I worried throughout this book. (I am a worrier.). I should have had faith in Patricia Briggs ability—she is awesome!

As expected, Patricia Briggs has delivered another astonishingly great read in Smoke Bitten. Besieged on multiple fronts, Mercy triumphs yet again over her enemies, including those closest to home. Mercy’s powers - or at least her understanding of what she is capable of - continue to grow, along with the complexity and depths of her relationships. I need a little while to recover from this intense story, but I’ll be reading it again soon, to find even more to treasure. Thank you to Patricia Briggs for continuing to share your storytelling gifts with us.
