Description

A powerful curse forces the exiled Queen of Faerie to choose between ambition and humanity in this highly anticipated and jaw-dropping finale to The Folk of the Air trilogy from a #1 New York Times bestselling author.

He will be the destruction of the crown and the ruination of the throne

Power is much easier to acquire than it is to hold onto. Jude learned this lesson when she released her control over the wicked king, Cardan, in exchange for immeasurable power.

Now as the exiled mortal Queen of Faerie, Jude is powerless and left reeling from Cardan's betrayal. She bides her time determined to reclaim everything he took from her. Opportunity arrives in the form of her twin sister, Taryn, whose life is in peril.

Jude must risk venturing back into the treacherous Faerie Court, and confront her lingering feelings for Cardan, if she wishes to save her sister. But Elfhame is not as she left it. War is brewing. As Jude slips deep within enemy lines she becomes ensnared in the conflict's bloody politics.

And, when a dormant yet powerful curse is unleashed, panic spreads throughout the land, forcing her to choose between her ambition and her humanity . . .

The whole story was about a grovel for power between the lovers, but in the end they became a team. I love the transition. Also, this book was great because we got to see Cardan’s background, which explains why he drinks so much. One part I don’t like is that the resolution to Cardan’s character is a little contradictory. In one part he admits to Jude that there will always be a part of him that likes seeing her suffer, and that doesn’t get resolved. Plus, throughout the trilogy, he actually saved her a lot, so this part just puts in a plot hole. Another thing: we find out some good things he has done in his past. I wish one of those things had been making up for tearing off a boy’s wing, at the beginning of the first book. I also wish there had been some explanation to why he did that. It seemed like Cardan is good overall, so I wish some loose ends about his character had been tied up. That being said, I loved the ending. It made everything I didn’t like about the series worth it. Throughout the series, Jude was power hungry, which I didn’t care for. In the end though, she is willing to give all that up. Also, great twist!!! Overall, the trilogy is an easy read, and if you stick with it, the ending is quite the investment.

This book was great but I feel like there was less of that tension and suspense/plot twists because it was the ending of a trilogy. The Wicked King had more of a shock factor, this one leaves you happy but did leave me feeling a bit unsatisfied (maybe from wanting to read more). For some reason, a happy ending doesn’t sit right with me for this series lol.

I cannot explain how much I love this series. I have grown to love Jude and Cardan so much. Honestly wish I gave myself more time to read the finale but it was too great to put down.

The book went smoothly in the beginning like the other books in the series but towards the end it kinda got boring and repetitive to the point where I had to skip chapters to get to the point.
