Marine Force Recon

This is the series opener for Declan’s Defenders and it features Declan and Grace. He and his team were dishonorably discharged from the Marines for abandoning a mission that required them to shoot through a bridal party, that included the bride, groom, women and children, to kill a Taliban leader. Now he’s trying to figure out what to do with his life when he finds himself in the middle of an attempted abduction of a wealthy older woman, which is where he meets Grace. I can’t say too much about it but I can say that I love how this author weaves all these lives together. The easiness between Grace and Declan was there from their first meeting. The attraction was subtle and their intimacy was smooth, natural and oh so sexy. Charlie is a hoot! We probably would have loved her husband too. I love how this author ties it all together and gets the story moving. The action and adventure was exciting and I look forward to the next book in this awesome series.

Wow, just wow! I don't read a lot of Harlequin books these days but Elle James is one of my favorite authors so when she has a new one out, I usually read it. Marine Force Recon is part of the Harlequin Intrigue line and it is a great story. I'm not sure I've ever read a book that started out with so much action and it didn't stop there. There definitely is a romantic element to this story but I'd call it a slow burn and the romance doesn't happen until pretty far into it. When the time came things got pretty sexy. :-) I'm not going to rehash the blurb as it does a great job of describing the story. For me, this book was so full of heart-pounding action that I couldn't put it down once I'd started. Marine Force Recon is the first book in the Declan's Defenders series and I can't wait to read more. Declan is in the right place at the right time to save a lady from being abducted in WDC. This throws him and his team into a new line of work. Protecting Grace and finding her missing roommate now is his priority. Loved the connection between Declan and Grace. A strong determination to do the right thing is woven throughout the story. The action keeps you reading until the end. Great beginning to a new series.

Despondent over receiving a dishonorable discharge from the Marines, Declan decides to play tourist in Washington, DC. Having never seen the various monuments, Declan decides to wonder Washington until he can figure out what he wants to do with the rest of his life. He knows one thing for certain, he can’t go home until he “proves” himself. While contemplating life, a couple of vans block a limo and gunfire breaks out. Declan pushes a woman to the ground, then proceeds to assist in saving an elderly lady-before he’s arrested.... After surviving the terrorist attack in the streets, Grace finds she’s missed her job interview and was left with a stranger’s backpack. So Grace reschedules her interview and goes in search of the man who saved her. Unable to locate her hero, Grace heads home to discover her roommate is missing. After spending the night looking for Riley, Grace goes to her interview where she is surprised by her hero. Grace would do anything for Riley, so she accepts help from Declan. A fast paced, page turner! The suspense had me at the edge of my seat! I truly thought Grace and Declan were going to be discovered while snooping in Riley’s office. I loved that Grace wasn’t weak, that she fought with all she had. I thought the story was unique and intriguing with plenty of romantic moments. I can’t wait to read the conclusion to Riley’s story! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

Declan O’Neill has lost it all—little money, no job, dishonorable discharge from the Marines and now needs to figure out where his life goes from here. While walking the streets of DC he witnesses a woman being pulled from a limo and gun fire erupts, he grabs a woman, close to him, throws her to the ground and covers her to protect her from the gunfire and his training kicks in...he tells her to keep his backpack and stay down. He takes off to rescue the woman in the limo and what happens next will keep you on your toes and he edge of your seat... So much is happening in this story but such great potential moving forward...Can’t wait for more of Declan’s Defenders...Awesome!!

Interesting story with lots of series potential. At first I felt it was taking too long to lay the story down, but goodness when action happens, it flies. I like the mystery of this story and that it will carry through to the next book. I'm curious who this Charlie is. It's not clear why she was targeted. Nor was it clear if that threat was eliminated. So will that come up in a future story? Who knows. Only time will tell. I'm looking forward to the next book to see what happens with Riley. And hopefully to see more of Declan and Grace.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it. What a great book. I was thoroughly engrossed in the story right from the beginning. I loved both Declan and Grace. When Grace's friend and room-mate disappears, she teams up with a Marine that was dishonorably discharged. This story was fast paced and very intriguing. The only thing that I hated was to see the end of this story. In reading the Epilogue, I am excited to read the next book in this series. I loved that this book was written in my favorite dual POV. Reading how the characters think and respond to a situation is a big plus for me. Ms. James has did a fabulous job with this story. I highly recommend.
