Description

Lowcountry PI Liz Talbot returns to the streets of Charleston in the seventh installment of Susan M. Boyer’s USA TODAY bestselling mystery series.

Between an epic downpour and a King Tide, those historic streets are flooded—and dangerous. A late night tragic accident along the Lower Battery leads Liz Talbot straight to her next case.

Who’s the client? Well, now, therein lies the first puzzle. When the police arrive at the scene of the accident, Poppy Oliver claims she’s only trying to help.

But the dent on the front of her Subaru and the victim’s injuries provoke a certain Charleston police detective’s suspicious nature. A wealthy, anonymous benefactor hires Liz and her partner Nate Andrews to prove Poppy Oliver’s innocence.

What exactly was Poppy Oliver up to? Is she a random good Samaritan who happens upon the accident scene? Or perhaps this tragedy wasn’t an accident. She just might be his abused wife’s accomplice.

Why does everyone involved in this case have a sudden burning urge for reading material, leading them to the same charming bookshop along the waterfront?

From a risqué, exclusive club in an old plantation to an upscale resale shop in the historic King Street shopping district to a downtown graveyard crawling with ghosts, Liz tracks a group of women who band together to help victims of domestic violence.

In her most challenging case yet, Liz fears she may find a killer, but justice may prove elusive.

Lowcountry Bookshop was definitely up to Susan Boyer’s usually fantastic storytelling abilities. Colleen and Liz and Nate follow a murder throughout Charleston to try find the killer and protect an potentially innocent woman. Moments of mayhem ensue and the cloudy picture gets even cloudier before the sun finally shines through. Trying to watch them as they search for clues can be humorous or dangerous or confusing, depending on the day and time. Liz’s quirky family and friends do not disappoint. This book and a glass of Cheerwine will make your day. Susan Boyer’s seventh Liz Talbot mystery hits it out of the park again. I received an advanced reader copy of this book and reviewed it voluntarily.

Lowcountry Bookshop is Susan M. Boyer’s seventh book in her Liz Talbot Mystery series. A chance meeting in Charleston with Detective Sonny Ravenel and his prime suspect in a death caused by what may have been her car hitting the deceased is the first step in Liz and husband Nate Andrews investigation into what really happened when they are engaged by attorneys Eli Radcliffe and Fraser Rutledge on behalf of an unknown client. The big questions plaguing Liz include why was Poppy Oliver being blamed and why were high powered attorneys involved? The answers involve battered women’s issues, upscale clubs, members of the Charleston elite, and long ago drug connections in a faraway place. Again Susan M. Boyer has woven an intricate tale of intrigue and danger with engaging subplots and endearing characters. The background of her home on Stella Maris, her siblings, her parents, and the folks you have come to love on the island just add to the fun and adventure. I found this to be a great story interwoven with current social topics. I wholeheartedly recommend this book!

Susan Boyer does it again with a great new Liz Talbot mystery. If you love quirky southern families and beautiful settings along with a great mystery plot, this series is for you! Susan makes you love her characters - they're easy to get to know and love and hard to let go when the book ends. I enjoy this series so much and this latest installment is just as wonderful as the other books in the series. Liz Talbot is a smart woman and approaches her cases with thorough examination. Her partner, Nate, is wonderful as well. While I love Liz and Nate, her family and her ghostly advisor add great flavor and it all comes together to provide a great read! I look forward to more books in this series. As soon as finish one, I'm anxious for the next. I highly recommend Susan and Liz to you!
  • BEGUILING!

Lowcountry Bookshop ((The Liz Talbot Mystery Series #7) is beguiling from beginning to end! I’ve been a fan of this series from the beginning, but in my opinion, the author has taken this series to a whole different level with this installment. She also manages to draw attention to a very real problem in today’s society. Boyer has given her readers more insights into her beloved characters and it’s interesting to see what motivates them, watch their growth, see their struggles, learn their dreams and she makes you feel as though you are a “silent PI partner” working with them to solve their case. Liz and Nate find themselves working a very complex case with an even more complicated client. Throw in Liz’s family’s usual shenanigans and chaos on top of everything else and you wonder how Liz and Nate are able to close any of their cases! Boyer’s clever diversions will keep you engaged throughout! Best mystery of the series! I was provided an ARC of this book by Henery Press and NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence. I also have preordered a copy of this book for my own personal collection.

Lowcountry Bookshop by Susan Boyer, finds our heroine, Liz Talbot, working on a hit-and-run whodunit! Fans of the seven-book series will be happy to catch up with Liz, Nate, the Talbot family, and the Stella Maris community. Newcomers to the series will not feel left out and lost if this is the first book in the series they are reading. Boyer does a great job of giving the reader enough prior knowledge of characters and events that they are in the loop but does not spend too much time on this so that series regulars are bored. Lowcountry Bookshop offers readers a quick paced mystery peppered with laughs. Boyer does an excellent job of weaving the lives of the island inhabitants in with the mystery and propels both forward effortlessly. Her familiarity with the Charleston setting lends itself to lingo and locations in a manner that seems sincere and knowledgeable. I am an avid fan of the Liz Talbot series! I anxiously await new titles and finish them far too fast once they are released! Lowcountry Bookshop is an excellent addition to the series and for fans of the mystery genre. Those looking for a beach read, a cozy mystery, or even a supernatural book will also enjoy Lowcountry Bookshop! M. McCabe Rentz
