Description

In a dump in the lawless settlement of Scrapyard, far beneath the mysterious space city of Zalem, disgraced cyber-doctor Daisuke Ido makes a strange find: the detached head of a cyborg woman who has lost all her memories. He names her Alita and equips her with a powerful new body, the Berserker. While Alita remembers no details of her former life, a moment of desperation reawakens in her nerves the legendary school of martial arts known as Panzer Kunst. In a place where there is no justice but what people make for themselves, Alita decides to become a hunter-killer, tracking down and taking out those who prey on the weak. But can she hold onto her humanity as she begins to revel in her own bloodlust?

Really nice cyborg and machine designs, a great manga with many spin offs to feed the fans.

I think so. I’m one of those fans who was drawn to the manga after watching the live action movie. I loved the movie so much that I bought volume 1 of this manga. I’m happy to say this source material is worth the read and any number of re-reads! This manga is well written for the 90s, the art is phenomenal, and the action panels are the topping on the cake. You may be surprised as I was to see how Alita implements her tactics in the heat of battle. To perform actions towards her enemies in a non-conventional way that not even I would imagine. Note that the movie changed a lot of things despite remaining faithful to the source material. Which is better? You decide for yourself. You just might find that you like it.

This series was brought over to the west back in the 90’s and was a cornerstone in modern cyberpunk and robotics stories. Highly regarded, well received, and extremely influential - I encourage you to give it a read.
  • This got me back into manga and anime

I had just recently left the theater for the live action movie and was mesmerized by the idea of the universe. When I began reading the manga my eyes were opened to all of the raw detail that the other media and material leaves out. This manga is truly s must read if you want to get into the Aliya universe and manga in general. The pacing is decent, yet I feel like they go a bit fast in places where I feel like there should be more dialogue. The relationship that you will see unfold in Alita is interesting but it definitely was rushed, even in the manga. Still is definitely worth your time if you wish to read it.
