Description

Vampire hunter Anita Blake has always managed to overcome everything she faces. But this time there’s a monster that even she doesn’t know how to fight...

A remote Florida island is the perfect wedding destination for the upcoming nuptials of Anita’s fellow U.S. Marshal and best friend, Edward. For Anita, the vacation is a welcome break, as it’s the first trip she gets to take with just wereleopards Micah and Nathaniel. But it’s not all fun and games and bachelor parties…

In this tropical paradise, Micah discovers a horrific new form of lycanthropy, one that has afflicted a single family for generations. Believed to be the result of an ancient Greek curse, it turns human bodies into a mass of snakes.

When long-simmering resentment leads to a big blow-up within the wedding party, the last thing Anita needs is more drama. But it finds her anyway when women start disappearing from the hotel, and worse, her own friends and lovers are considered the prime suspects. There’s a strange power afoot that Anita has never confronted before, a force that’s rendering those around her helpless. Unable to face it on her own, Anita is willing to accept help from even the deadliest places. Help that she will most certainly regret—if she survives at all, that is…

Interesting story developed at the end. Anita is an awesome character that is fascinating to follow until the story gets too much inside her head. This story was much better than most of the last few books.

As always the Anita Blake books take me to another world. I used to have all of her books hard bound but lost them to black mold. Nobody writes so many characters in books and all of them are”real” can’t get any better. ONLY issue is that I wish there were more !!

I keep hoping for a miracle. For a book that’s supposed to be about snakes you can’t actually find them until the last chapter! The whole book was one long therapy session.... Ted and Donna’s, Anita, Micah and Nathaniel’s, Anita and everyone else’s.....

Laurell K Hamilton is one of my favorite authors and I say this with complete honesty after being a fan of hers for years, this was not her best work. Unfortunately, not even close. Over the years her writing has changed and evolved, however that is not necessary a bad thing. People change over time so why wouldn’t their writing styles and inspiration? So my disappointment in this book was not because of that but rather because until the end it was not able to hold my interest. The Anita Blake series is a favorite for me because the action, mystery and sex has always been described in such a way that the reader feels as if they have been pulled into the pages. In Laurell’s earlier work I would have to stop reading because I was too enthralled, too emotionally invested in what was happening to the characters; sadly that was not the case with this book. While I did take breaks in reading, it was because the story did not draw me in for most of the book. Then towards the end when I was getting into it everything ended and quickly. Previously at the end of each new book I would be desperately waiting for the next book in the series and while I still love the series, but this book did not meet the expectations that the previous works have.

I have read all of the Anita Baker series and have enjoyed them for the most part, some more than others. That said, this was probably my least favorite. I felt it was very slow to really hit its stride and the mood of the beginning made it a challenge to keep reading. Alas, I suppose hey can’t all be good. Hopefully there next will be better.

Loved the story wish there had been more action it always seams like it’s the last 50 pages. Was very happy there was not so much sex.

Feels like more of the same. It’s all love drama & then slam the good stuff into last 3 chapters & done. I understand the character is changing/has changed, but I miss good old Anita.

Ms Hamilton as usual didn’t disappoint but she needs to add something different to her story line maybe make it more exciting as far as the hunting for the “bad guys” goes it’s all the same ole same ole, maybe one time the bad guy escapes to hunt another day or maybe a different form, or maybe able to change forms at will, have different more exotic venues, have one character that’s hard to kill or have one of her many “men” be really complicated or can change to many shapes, something to mull over......
  • Perfect!

The title says it all. This is one of THE best books in the Anita Blake series. I’m soooo glad Miz Hamilton has gone back to writing stories, not smut. While I like a good sex scene, I LOVE a real story with character developments, good dialogue, and “real” problems.
