The Lensmen are the most feared peacekeepers in the Galaxy. The ‘Lens’, a telepathic jewel matched to the ego of its wearer, is the ultimate weapon in the war against the merciless pirate Boskone and his forces of lawlessness. The only problem is the Galactic Patrol isn’t sure how to capitalize on the Lens’ incredible powers, but new graduate Kimball Kinnison is determined to learn. Taking command of the experimental fighting ship, the Brittania, Kinnison and his crew set off on a journey of harrowing adventures, coming face to face with deadly space creatures and evil pirates...

  • Great story but poor quality ebook

This version of Doc Smith’s Galactic Patrol is riddled with typos and mis-corrected typos. It was evidently made by text recognition software applied to a scan of the book. The editor did an OK but not great job fixing up the text at the beginning of the book, but evidently gave up about halfway through the novel. There are other versions of this book in the Apple Bookstore. I’d try one of those instead of purchasing this ebook.

The book is wonderful. I have owned a hard copy for decades, but wanted an e-book version. The developer who put this book up for sale in what used to be the iBook Store brags that it’s an up-to-date e-book, scanned using high tech equipment, and that it will be free of errors, scannos, and typos. It is also stated in the blurb that the book was proofread before being put in iBooks. Do NOT buy this version of this book. It is loaded with errors: scannos, typos, missing words, em dashes instead of hyphens, commas randomly appearing or missing, and more. In the first 96 pages, I have accumulated 45 notes regarding these issues. I hope that the developer sees this review and corrects the errors. I wish there were a way I could contact the developer directly to give him/her/it the list I am compiling, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to do this. If I somehow find put that corrections have been made, I will come back and rewrite this review. For now, though, I am recommending that you purchase a different e-book version.
