    Okay, so where do I even begin with this one? I want to start off by saying that self help books are something that I have read a dozen or so, give or take. And while I have heard every single thing in this book before (minus the authors personal experiences that she added into the book), I felt it was more so a white woman’s version of the book “The Secret,” but it felt a bit quickly thrown together to me by the end… which was then confirmed in the last two chapters of the book when she admitted she started to stress out when she had the one month deadline coming up when she threw this book together…. and it definitely reads that way. I thought that at first, it was still going to be a decent refresher for me with maybe some new tools/exercises thrown into the mix. I like the fact that it is definitely bite size and a quick/easy read. It’s not necessarily my style, but I felt for sure this would be a great book to pass to my friend who thought “Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before?” Was a bit too long. I figured it would be the perfect introduction to self help books, just like the Four Agreements & The Secret were two of my first ones. Im glad I read the book before I gave it to her though, because she can get more out of The Secret, and it’s just as long in length. The reason it gets knocked down in ratings are for as follows: 1. It doesn’t really dive too deep into HOW to change your life or that many tools, and for that, I think a current book, “Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before,” and a copy of “The Secret” is overall much more helpful. 2. It bothered me that she writes how she speaks a lot of types without punctuation. While it’s more inclusive and makes it easier to digest for others - it’s just not necessarily my style I prefer to go for when reading a book (even if that may come off a bit hypocritical because I know I often type how I talk on social media, but I know I wouldn’t do that when I do write my book. 3. She talks about affirmations a lot. However, science/research has now come out in the last few years that affirmations are really hard for those who are struggling terribly or have low self esteem. For people who have really bad depression or feel extremely stuck, just saying an affirmation a bunch has the opposite effect. She didn’t do her research prior though. 4. She went from saying to do an exercise where we visualize our inner child who has experienced trauma and such, and then our adult selves/the version we want to be can come and tell the child that they are safe and the older version of us is taking over, to in the very next paragraph saying things like “get up early, work out, cook yourself nutritious meals,” etc etc etc…. And again, when you are struggling terribly with depression, one exercise isn’t going to work. 5. I don’t think she mentioned one time that if a person still wants to die or doesn’t believe in themselves or whatever- to seek therapy. Which would be the responsible thing to do. 6. I found a lot of concern with the one chapter where she says to give painful people the axe from your life. She admits that we probably love, or like these people, a lot, and it will be hard, but to basically cut them off with no explanation. We now know that this is also harmful and contributing to mental illness on the rise.
