After Completing “The Power of Listening” Lesson Parents will:
1. Learn more about their child’s thoughts and feelings by his or her tone of voice or body language than from their actual words.
2. Use active listening such as their ears, eyes and heart to communicate more effectively with their child.
3. Understand the purpose behind never asking questions that begin with the word “WHY”.
4. Repeat what they heard their child say in their own words to practice reflective listening.
5. Consider their child’s feelings first over their own.
6. Remember the relationship is about their child’s growth and development.
7. Be quick to listen and slow to speak.
8. Listen to their child without coming up with solutions.
