*Spoiler Alert*
This book was truly a work of art, but the end felt rushed. Like: BOOM- Death, BOOM- Jail, BOOM- Mommy!, BOOM- The End. It lacked the overwhelming detail I'm so fond of. Also, the authors committed the one literary sin that drag so many readers through agony: murdering a main character. And they didn't even like, do it well. As I said before, it was majorly rushed! There was no time for the cold hard truth to sink in. Aaron is DEAD!!! You got so caught up in the accusations and etc. that it just got lost!
Also, the plot twist! Alex was a good guy throughout the whole book. I was fond of him, I was okay with the possible Tamara and Alex thing. And then he just pulls a complete 360! You don't just go from "oh la-de-da. I'm in love with your bff's sister... need help? La-la-la" to "I'm gonna murder you and take your magic! And it was an act! And I'm you arch-nemesis's almost son and boo on you cause your better than me even though you clearly aren't!!!" In less than two pages! At least Drew was more sudle. You didn't know much about him and then a huge truth comes soaring in through an action packed hero scene.
The book gave so much detail in the beginning and middle! Like a jelly filled donut! But this jelly filled donut got smashed in the box and now half the filling is gone and one side is squished! Like a roller coaster that was awesome with loops and drops and craziness and then has fifteen minutes of slow inching towards the stop so you can get off finally.
Over all I loved it, but the end... it left me sobbing inside and also cheering for victory and filling with regret and being smacked over the head with realization and being bored to death and spilling over with curiosity all in the span of five minutes! I just HOPE, and I truly do, that the next book will be better. I can already predict the plot, but I really hope I'm wrong. I don't want Call to have to abandon the Magesturium, or to have to go on the run with his newly found Mommy. I just don't know what to expect.
Simply couldn't put it down

This installment in The Magisterium was fast paced and entertaining. The kids faced difficulty on several fronts while remaining loyal to each other. I was saddened by events and thrilled by others. Quite an enjoyable read.
I so wanted to love this series...

I really wanted this series to work. I like what happens in these books, but...the WAY things happen is just no good. Darn it if I'm not still hooked, and I'll definitely pick up a copy of The Silver (something), but I don't think this series is a good as it *easily* could have been. The intent is there, but the execution isn't.
It's worth your money, buy it, the come back to this. Maybe you'll agree. Meanwhile...
SPOILERS BELOW!!!
Here's a problem with this series has become so much worse in this book: the climaxes are rushed. Almost to the point of anticlimax. In this case, there's barely any build-up, the twist on who the killer is comes too far out of left field, despite the fact that they explain the clues. It's as if the authors' original plan for who the spy is was axed, and the desperately searched for an alternative, settling on someone who *just* barely slid by without being a completely out-of-a-hat. Feels like the book 1 twist all over again.
The climax lasts 10 pages (not counting the latest bloody monologue) or so and its over, with the death of a major character to boot! A pointless death, barely touched upon. Game of Thrones levels of pointless and suddenness.
Now, the series can go in one of two directions, neither of which I like. Either this character stays dead and a huge chunk of the story is just tossed aside, or they explore necromancy with Cal's chaos abilities. Either way, I'm not a fan. I get why they did it, and kudos for having the guts to do it, but I think it was a mistake.
I love the fact that Cal was finally outed, but I again, it came out of nowhere! *Once again*, the villain escapes after the fight (hate that this keeps happening) and the masters arrive JUST in time to see nothing and jump to conclusions.
Contrivance, convenience, confound it!! The series has everything going for it, but it still fell apart. Again, everything that happens is pitch-perfect, the story elements are exceptional, but HOW they happen is at either contrived or rushed.
But I'll still buy the next book.

I'm almost finished on the fifth day of reading it. Chapter 16 sad. Man I'm about to cry over that. But Havoc the best. Haven't even read 17 but I want to know what happens in 4. Can't wait I read this series since fifth grade and I'm in sixth. I wonder how Jasper and Celia are doing together.

from the beginning I thought this saga was going to be another harry potter wannabe because, let's face it, they have almost the same plot- yes, from the fantastic three best friends that manage to break a lot of rules without really getting in trouble to the character who was a normal student and then went crazy and started a war... it is awfully familiar.
the thing about this saga is that in the second book they managed to turn away from the harry potter drama to something more fresh and it was going completely fine, until this third book.
since I read the first book I was asking questions to myself about how these two amazing writers were going to develop the story since our main character IS also the bad guy, but the twist they put into this? yeah, not good. It is almost as bad as veronica roth killing her main character in the divergent series and honestly, without this character I don't know how they'll continue.
if they wanted to do different than j.k rolling... congrats you potentially ruined this saga.
but other than that, the story was well written an it had me eating the pages as soon as I started reading, I am excited to see what they have planned after the thing they did.
