Description

The New York Times bestselling author of Only a Kiss launches a new series with the death of an earl and the revelation of a scandalous secret...

Humphrey Westcott, Earl of Riverdale, has died, leaving behind a fortune that will forever alter the lives of everyone in his family—including the daughter no one knew he had...

Anna Snow grew up in an orphanage in Bath knowing nothing of the family she came from. Now she discovers that the late Earl of Riverdale was her father and that she has inherited his fortune. She is also overjoyed to learn she has siblings. However, they want nothing to do with her or her attempts to share her new wealth. But the new earl’s guardian is interested in Anna…

Avery Archer, Duke of Netherby, keeps others at a distance. Yet something prompts him to aid Anna in her transition from orphan to lady. As London society and her newfound relatives threaten to overwhelm Anna, Avery steps in to rescue her and finds himself vulnerable to feelings and desires he has hidden so well and for so long.

Avery is the BEST! I love him!! Every book in the series is great. (Didn’t read them in order - terrible mistake 😏) but I enjoyed it nonetheless

Mary B always delivers an interesting story with her romances. Her heroines are not wimpy, thank goodness. Sometimes the story does drag a little but she wraps it up quickly without being too sappy. I like that she writes trilogies so you can then get a glimpse of older characters in the new book of the trilogy. I always enjoy reading her stories because they are a quick read and easy to get into the story.

Outstanding book with depth and soul often missing in this genre. Well written, insightful, and not to be put down until finished.
  • I usually like Mary Balogh.

I usually like all of Mary Balogh’s books, but there was something about this book that didn’t fully satisfy. It was well written, there were parts that intrigued and made me turn the page, but other times I ended up skipping pages. I have never done that before, which means that maybe i was a bit bored with the main characters. I don’t feel the connection between them.
