Description

In her Avon debut, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jill Shalvis launches a fun, sexy new contemporary romance series featuring a boy, a girl, and one wily wishing well. Choose the one guy you can’t have . . .

As captain of a San Francisco Bay tour boat, Pru can handle rough seas—the hard part is life on dry land. Pru loves her new apartment and her neighbors; problem is, she’s in danger of stumbling into love with Mr. Right for Anybody But Her.

Fall for him—hard . . .

Pub owner Finn O’Riley is six-foot-plus of hard-working hottie who always makes time for his friends. When Pru becomes one of them, she discovers how amazing it feels to be on the receiving end of that deep green gaze. But when a freak accident involving darts (don’t ask) leads to shirtless first aid, things rush way past the friend zone. Fast.

And then tell him the truth.

Pru only wants Finn to be happy; it’s what she wishes for at the historic fountain that’s supposed to grant her heart’s desire. But wanting him for herself is a different story—because Pru’s been keeping a secret that could change everything. . . .

Pru wants to meet Finn. She wants to talk to him, touch him and more. He just has no clue she's alive. Or does he? Finn looks at her when she is all wet. Looking like a drowned rat. Suddenly the chance of a lifetime opens up. Pru has only to reveal the secret... Such a sexy and fun story. I was blown away by the feels I got reading this book. I felt it all. Really great start to the Heartbreaker Bay series. I cannot wait for the next book!

Pru is a charter boat captain with a mission. Since her parents’ death she has attempted to assuage her guilt and remorse by covertly and overtly helping the families that were impacted by her parents’ choices that night. Not only did Pru lose her parents that night, but her father was driving drunk, and the accident killed or impacted others. She’s stepped in to use all of her resources to help these families and ease their path in life. But, the last family she’s helped still need her. Finn was 21 when his father was killed by a drunk driver. He left school and a promising baseball career to step up and manage his younger brother Sean, building a life for them. Owning a bar wasn’t on his short-list, but he’s done everything, and works endlessly to make a go of things. Unfortunately, he never really sees that Sean appreciates or understands the necessity of work, dedication and commitment. He’s desperately in need of some relaxation and fun in his life, it just won’t be a woman. Or perhaps, the water-logged blonde with legs for days and a nearsighted mini-mutt with mega attitude may be the cure. I loved these two – both are stuck in their own little boxes. Pru spends so much time trying to do for others to make up for something that was never her responsibility that she’s never really moved forward from the night of her parents’ death. Her only living relative is her paternal grandfather: an elderly, infirm man struggling with dementia and anger. She nearly bankrupted herself to help everyone impacted by the accident, and still her own happiness eludes her as she doesn’t think she deserves it. Finn’s journey is a bit different – a deceitful girlfriend just added to his issues: determined to make good and overcome his father’s expectations for both he and Sean, he’s guarded and focused – on work. One of those stories that just gets better as it proceeds – with secondary characters that are as important to the relationship between Finn and Pru, the wishing well at the center of the story, and Pru’s nearsighted and obstreperous little dog Thor. Each of the secondary characters brings that sense of ‘family you make’ to the story, supportive and protective, these are the friends everyone wants in their corner. A wonderful start to a new series – go grab this now for plenty of smiles with a few tears, sure to leave you smiling. I received a paperback copy of the title from Avon Addicts for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Sweet Little Lies is a great introduction to the people of Heartbreaker Bay and a witty, intriguing story. Loved Finn and Pru. Can't wait for Willa's story.

I enjoy everything written by this author. As always: fun, funny, sexy, quirky & HEA. But this time, more emotional. Lonely people learning about selflessness, friendship, and love. Love the setting for this book (series?), the apartment building & neighborhood hang-out in SanFran.
  • A Wonderful New Series

Every time I read a book by Jill Shalvis I am in love with the characters she creates and writes about; Sweet Little Lies is no exception. It is another example of Shalvis’ sense of humor, her creativity, as well as her outstanding writing ability. This is the first book in her new Heartbreaker Bay series which takes place in San Francisco. At first I was concerned with Ms. Shalvis leaving her successful formula for small town stories. I need not have worried, she created a small community of close knit friends who hang out together and support one another. It still small town feeling only now it was within a large city. Ms. Shalvis did an amazing job taking the reader through the roller coaster as Pru and Finn discover their chemistry, as well as the affection and love they shared with each other. She did an excellent job explaining why Pru needed to make amends for the mistakes of her parents. Finn was an alpha, take care male who was also compassionate for those he cared about. Sweet Little Lies was a fun and entertaining story with likeable characters that you want to support and cheer on hoping for that happy ending. The characters were well written and complex. The story line was riveting and kept my attention to the very end. Shalvis is a talented writer, able to create a funny, romantic story that made it hard, at least for this reader, to put the book down. This is a must read for anyone who enjoys a good contemporary romance that contains a lot of humor mixed in with smexy.
  • Another great Jill story

Pru is a captain of a San Francisco tour boat and loves her job even working for her ex. She feels guilt for the tragedy her parents caused and is trying to make amends for everyone they injured in a car accident. Finn O'Riley is a pub owner and is infatuated with Pru. He goes out of his way to make virgin drinks for her because she doesn't drink. When a freak accident happens with darts things are pushed past the friends zone, making Pru feel she needs to tell Finn the truth. Pru wants Finn to be happy, even making a wish for him to find true love in the historic fountain outside the bar. Instead she gets a twofer and ends up finding love herself. As usual Jill writes an awesome book. From the second I read the first page I was drawn in by Pru and Thor. The chemistry between Pru and Finn is contagious and you hope for the best for them and want them to be together. They are drawn to each other like magnets. I thought the bar accident was hilarious and loved Pru's reaction. Jake, Pru's ex, is a complex, interesting character that I really hope gets his own book because I would like to get to know him better. I can't wait to read Willa's story. Received ARC in exchange for honest review.

Great new series from Jill Shalvis! The San Francisco setting is refreshing with a group of interesting friends who has each other's back & will help each friend in many different ways. The growing love connection between Finn & Pru was full of emotion but soul searching, too. A fabulous read with a whole group of characters! A must read for anyone! Great writing Jill!!!

I love, love, love Jill Shalvis' books, every single one of them. When I hear that a new one is coming out, there's no question that I will be reading it. New book in a beloved series? Great. New series? Awesome. If Jill's written it, I'm reading it. SWEET LITTLE LIES is the first book in Jill's Heartbreaker Bay series. Set in San Francisco, and full of the quirky and lovable characters that are part of all of Jill's books, this one had me from word one. Pru Harris is the do-gooder to end all do-gooders. Feeling responsible for something that happened years before, something that changed the course of many lives, Pru has made it her mission in life to right what she sees as the wrongs done to others by giving them something back to make up for their losses. Finn O'Riley is one of those people. He doesn't know what Pru's about, he just knows that he's never met anyone like her, and wants to know her a lot better. "You've got an interesting job..." "Yes...Interesting. And fun, too." "Fun." Finn repeated the word like it didn't compute. "Now there's something I haven't had in a while." "You know, in some circles I'm known as the Fun Whisperer." One of the things that I love most about Jill's books is the dialogue. Sassy, snarky, often sexy, but never boring. Jill has mastered the art of the verbal, and I love seeing the words that flow between the characters, as well as the interior dialogue, because it never disappoints. Pru and Finn are perfectly matched here, and the whole cast of supporting characters keep right up with them. This, along with the relationships of the tightly-knit community in Heartbreaker Bay, made me feel like being surrounded by a group of people that are the best kind of folks to hang out with. Another thing that Jill does extremely well is sexy time. Finn is one hot ticket, and, if Pru is the Fun Whisperer, then he is the Panty Whisperer. Spark, sizzle, intense combustible chemistry, call it what you will, but these two have it in abundance. It is a true pleasure watching their relationship unfold. 5 stars for SWEET LITTLE LIES and the residents of Heartbreaker Bay. I am really looking forward to spending more time with Finn, Pru, and the rest of the gang, and can't wait for THE TROUBLE WITH MISTLETOE, coming this fall.
  • Great ensemble cast and love story

Sweet Little Lies is a great first book in a new series from Jill Shalvis. It has a great ensemble cast which form a tight-knit group of friends but also tease the reader with a lot of wonderful stories yet to come. Finn is a wonderful hero, feeling the need to take care of everyone after the death of his parents. He and Pru are alike in that way, although Pru's need to take care of people is focused on a select few and driven by her guilt. Pru and Finn's relationship follows a winding path to happily-ever-after, with a lot of potholes on the way, funny antics by their friends, and hilarious misunderstandings which lead to their eventual happily-ever-after. The city of San Francisco and the building Pru lives in set the stage for a wonderful story and the city itself is as much a character as the actual characters are. It reminded me much of the movie Singles, with a cast of twenty-somethings living in and working in a building which throws them together and forces them to feel what they sometimes don't want to feel. I look forward to future releases in the Heartbreak Bay series. Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
